Get the watch you like. Just go and see the watch in person. And imho, please don't care about what resale value. Having the pleasure of a watch you really like on your wrist is priceless and intangible.

Fully agree. Since you are the one wearing the watch. Best to Get the watch YOU like and not a watch YOUR father like

Hi Bros and sis here, looking to get a first good watch for myself. Was looking at the Tudor black Bay, should I just go for it or like my Father say, save up more and go for the Rolex sub? Can anyone who was in my shoe kindly advise? Thanks!

while i love the black bay noir and almost pulled trigger on one (just that i love my omega 2254.50 even more and is fortunate to snag one at a good price! ), the rolex sub has always had superior value retention through its brand power, status symbol, desirability by the public at large and "prestige and perceived exclusivity" as the ablogtowatch article aptly put it.

buying what one likes is all fine & good - but if you earn your money the hard way like me with blood, sweat & tears, it's important that you make what you buy count in the long run.

by all means, you can do a tony stark if you can afford both.

otherwise, if it's either/or - "go big or go home" - cos eventually, you may still want a rolex sub despite having the tudor black bay (unless you're like me who's super-duper-satisfied with my omega 2254.50 daily beater).

If it's the Sub that you ultimately want, get a preowned BB first, flip for the Sub when you save enough

You can try to look at the Tudor Pelagos in person too. Best if you can try the gen 2 and try to source for a gen 1. I was at the same predicament as you before. BBN or Sub. Tried both in the AD as well as the Pelagos. I was blown away by the Pelagos and that was the one I got.

I'm at a point in life where there are not really that many material things that I really want anymore. However this new Daytonna really made me want it... Over the past decade I had always wanted one. The ironic thing is that there have been at least 3 occasions where I had the previous model on my wrist at the shops - the chocolate rose gold, the ss white and a two tone and I could not pull the trigger. Somehow didn't feel or look right and was disappointed and felt maybe it just wasn't meant for me

1) the seller
2) the buyer
3) The watch condition and servicing history
4) Completeness of the watch package
5) Demand of that particular series in the resale market.

but it seems to me that kashix is not gonna "flip" watches. its his first luxury watch to probably commemorate a personal milestone.

I would prefer to go the opposite direction and suggest to kashix to head down to a pre-owned watch shop like Chuan, HJ and try on both watches. If kashix is going for Tudor Black bay, then go for The Original Tudor Black Bay. not the Black, not the blue, not the bronze. The one which shot Black Bay to its current astronomical status.

Yup. Pelagos wears larger than the BBN. Gen 1 uses a top-grade eta movement and is slightly cheaper than Gen 2 which uses an in-house movement. The other differences are dial aesthetics. Gen 1 is commonly referred to as the "two-liner Pelagos" as there are only 2 texts on the dial at the bottom. Gen 2 has more text on the dial which some people find unappealing as they feel that it makes the dial "cluttered". Personally, I prefer the gen 1 coz of this.

Also, the gen 1 has a small lume indice beside the date, which is missing on the gen 2. Hence, the gen 1 has more lume symmetry.
