I'm just really curious how hard is the process gonna be to have a watch to be waterproof. I just don't feel it's as hard it's described.

Most people don't really need that water resistance. But as to why the water resistance can be compromised, it's simple, of course chances are lower with experienced watchmaker. Gasket can shift, close that time kiap by the back case slightly, all these things and more will introduce holes into the case.

I saw the mm1000 depth test video very sakti.

Also the reason I'm feeling it this way because I brought a really old watch for sea walking in phuket last year. It was only 10-15m but the watch came unscathed after the trip.

yes. once open its not factory sealed and tested.

but if it doesn't bother u then its fine. normal swimming and all is ok.

however if you wanna scuba dive, i think better to get it tested.

but it's one hot & handsome watch that is a MUST HAVE in any collection, imho...

saw one on display. the price wasn't outrageous, so i finally pulled trigger on my own brand new, 1st hand, authorized agent, special edition PADI co-branded seiko srpa21k1 local set with white outer box, black PADI prospex presentation inner box, roman numeral day wheel, 4r36 instruction manual, worldwide guarantee booklet, certificate of guarantee, PADI hang tag, prospex hang tag & seiko price tag...

everything aligns perfectly! the hour markers and rotating bezel both line up precisely to the rehaut/chapter ring hash marks. which is why i didn't hesitate to snag this set before it disappears (i've even seen some AD presentation sets with obvious alignment issues!... you really have to eyeball the dial carefully under a loupe before you buy).

despite a 45mm diameter case size, the turtle wears smaller, like a 40mm, given its smaller dial. short lugs contribute to a sensible lug-to-lug length, and together with its upward sloping lower case profile, the turtle wears extremely comfortably even as you flex your hand up & down at your wrist.

I was actually very tempted by the SBDX017 which was going at ¥189,000 too!

It felt very solid on the hand and the bracelet was great as well, but two watches is just too much for one trip.

btw, if it's not too much bother, could you check out where we can buy JDM white dial kanji-day wheels for 4r36 movements in japan (either physical store or online store). no luck at my end. i really, like REALLY, want to mod my turtle (and all my current/future day-date seikos with 4r36 movements) with kanji day wheels!

Buy something you really want, don't buy a watch to fit in. I think you'll look more weird wearing something you don't like/don't use than not wearing a watch. If the people you meet judge you based on what watch you wear, chances are you have a free pass with them simply because they don't see you as a "watch guy". Buying a watch now will lead to unwanted scrutiny, and if your watch ever opens up a conversation, you'll be put in an awkward position.

since you've zero interest in watches, i presume you now want to wear a luxury watch in the the company of the people you meet as a status symbol more than anything else. most content in this thread may not interest you. no offense.

if you still need/insist on a luxury watch that will retain value in the long run, there's a safe brand - rolex. and i suggest you buy from an authorized dealer (ie. brand spanking new). sure you've to pay the premium, but for a non-watch guy like you, that's the safest assurance that you're getting a genuine rolex for you cash.

rolex sports watches are the most popular, recognizable & retain their value well. right now, for just under $10k, you can only get a black dial rolex sub (without date). cough up $1.5k more for the sub date version.

if you really insist on a blue dial, you can consider the 39mm rolex oyster perpetual blue dial with green accents. or the 36mm rolex oyster perpetual blue dials (just walk into any AD and ask them to show you). mrsp $7.1K before 10-15% discount.

if you love the intense cobalt blue sunburst dial of the yachtmaster with platinum bezel - i know i do! (the very same one that bro babychimz has) https://www.rolex.com/watches/yacht-master/m116622-0001.html, cough up $5k more to get one brand new from an AD.

saw one used in people's park complex for a lower price, but since you're not experience in watches, buy new from an AD.
