im just a horological purist with a discerning eye to differentiate between those who believe in horological art, eg. gerald genta, hautlence , romain jerome and those who merely use a brand to speculate with no deep appreciation for horology in general

Gerald Genta - Immense watch designer. His brand though is just a sub-brand of Bvlgari these days. I don't even know if they still make their own watches.

Hautlence - Their designs look like Invicta or other mall special watches. Look at their Destination watch - I seen watches from Diesel that looks better and more expensive. Maybe bought by people who want but can't afford a MB&F.

Romain Jerome - Famous for making watches for people with bad taste. I remember that they made a watch from Titanic steel, who in the company thought this was appropriate? No wonder they went bust.

The titanic watch is at least affordable. It doesnt sell for alot of money.

as a watchmaking purist i have been suffering losses, i dont solely go for brands that everyone knows, i go for watchmaking capability, history, motivation behind the particular timepiece and design

Well, I thought all these while we refer Rolex as a tool watch rather than haute horlogerie? Just change bezel and dial designs, you get a new model. Easy.. No complications, no movement finishes. Its value is purely driven by supply and demand, nothing more.

i look at horology from arts perspective, losses to me are part and parcel of horology collecting, its not a worthwhile hobby if you keep appreciating watches from a gain or loss point of view

i have listed AP and patek previously and non famous brand names that not mainstream like rolex

i have also mentioned tudor as an worthy, value for money alternative to rolex as rolex group companies are not entirely overpriced.

There is a slight Rolex premium at RRP (over Omega, Panerai, etc), but if you cannot afford that premium, then don't collect Rolex and miss out on a non-trivial part of watchmaking history. Don't need to make all these laughable statements.

Bro, I don't think he cannot afford la, at least not in his mind.

But I like how he is saying he is a watch lover, but stay away from Rolex cos many non-watch lover buy.

So next year, if somehow Patek become super mass produced like Rolex, and many people buy Patek, he will drop all his Pateks like a hot potato. Interesting logic for a "watch lover".
