either flipper or a particular brand of watch especially popularly and always offered as a 7th month offering
Bro, 7th month offering also include house ah, car ah, food ah.

I suggest you:

1) Aim to buy an island, so far I haven't seen people buy island to offer to ghost. Looking forward to the news that someone has purchased St John's Island, I will smile and be glad for you.
2) Aim to buy plane, so far I also haven't seen people buying plane. This one a bit more common in the circles you profess to walk in, not sure if it pass your personal test or not.
3) Aim to learn how to photosynthesize...

That IWC lover guy, whose mother knows all the ADs, and who like to throw his car keys on the counter on MBS glass counter.. Never see him anymore, so I guess someone has to take on the role of resident clown here...

Forgot his name liao. GX can remember or not?
Hahahaha Err. Can't remember. But I know who 😂😂

Such a character really exists?

Sounds like a fun story time, especially the part where his mother knows all the ADs LOL

ooo, i had to google to know the types of watches
redface.gif

pilot or chronograph watch looks nice!

Pilot under 2k - Stowa or Laco.

Chronograph - if you must max your budget just look for Valjoux 7750 movement pieces I guess. Maybe a Damasko one?

Bro, I don't think he cannot afford la, at least not in his mind.

But I like how he is saying he is a watch lover, but stay away from Rolex cos many non-watch lover buy.

So next year, if somehow Patek become super mass produced like Rolex, and many people buy Patek, he will drop all his Pateks like a hot potato. Interesting logic for a "watch lover".
patek is not meant for flashy people

usually flashy low substance people buy rolex to show off

True Patek doesn't intend to be a flashy brand, but at the same time the Nautilus has kind of become that watch for flashy people to show off.

But not everyone knows about patek/RM

patek & RM has invested alot of money, more so than rolex into fine watchmaking and movement decoration

rolex is a hypebeast brand, “look im rich” kind of brand

it doesnt offer any form of discreet luxury

not that its something bad, but its a watch brand meant for noobs with money

No, but there's a lot more variety for chronograph. Quartz chrono will of course generally (depending on brand) be cheaper than mechanical pilot, mechanical chrono will generally cost more than mechanical pilot.

Rolex doesn't claim to be fine watch-making, they're tool watches. If you see their marketing, they're targeting sports and exploration now. https://www.rolex.com/world-of-rolex.html

Their dress line such as Datejust and Day-Date are also very successful (just not with the hypebeasts). You're right that they are not haute horology, but Rolex doesn't claim to be.

They just have been a symbol of success for so long that they got picked by many, including the hypebeasts who just want to show off. In the same way PP doesn't market to hypebeasts, but the Nautilus is kind of falling victim to becoming the new hypebeast watch, along with AP's Royal Oak.

That said, it's important not to overlook how important Rolex has been in putting Swiss watchmaking on the map. Yes, they are not the fine watch-making, but they are the gateway brand that introduces many collectors into the world of Swiss watches.

Then you're wrong. RM is getting alot of traction. If you know watches. You know RM as the "high end" watch.

Rolex was never Haute. Lol. They're a watch maker that makes everyday watches that last.
