are there dealers who will check for me?

when I used to play with DSLRs, certain camera dealers will do their own internal QC filtering when it comes to premium lenses,
do such dealers exist in the watch world?
lol sibei tough to do your business. ownself check la.
eyes can see what.

the first patek i saw on TV/screen was a vintage patek actually
it just looks "different" in a good way but I cant explain why
it's a dress watch with perpetual calendars, real calendar with day month date and a PM/AM thingy, not sure which model it is

then eventually somehow I think I saw a 5711 while i was doing part-time sale job
and i was blown away, it looked so understated like if you don't know about watches you will think it's some random watch, but in fact it is one of the most valuable watches (albiet overpriced)

it was understated and not boring,
it is misunderstood by noobs and only recognized by people who actually know something
i got crazy over it and have been wanting one (fantasy) since then, cant remember how long ago was it though.

Simple but not boring, I think it is very hard to achieve this.
Many other brands try to make simple-looking watches but they often end up looking so boring.

If you have good relationship with a dealer, they might be able to tell you something simple like whether the chapter ring aligns to your standards, and you can choose if you would purchase that piece, but they probably won't be ordering additional pieces from the supplier to find you a perfect one.

Premium lenses maybe, but Seiko, again, is a mass market product, not a premium product. Some misalignment is the norm rather than the exception.

Add: Actually if you're interested in getting a watch in a similar price bracket with better QC, I suggest you look at Tissot. They hold themselves to much higher standards than Seiko imo. (with reasonable limitations, given the price bracket)

oh no back to the drawing board again :(

this is a big purchase for me
would be really upsetting if I spent all that money to know that I got a bad QC copy (seiko)

No harm taking a look around and see what fits your purpose. Seiko is renowned for bezel misalignment so if that's a deal-breaker to you, I wouldn't suggest you getting a Seiko at all.

I've found a similar Tissot watch you could consider:

Well, congrats on your milestone and good luck with your hunt! I'm sure you will find something you like, the world of dive watches is huge.

Are you serious or trolling??
Anyway, no perfect watch at the price point you are looking at. My SPB143 also have very minor misalignment although not as bad as Seiko 5 model. Finishes is much better than cheaper version of seiko definitely. Other cons will be consistency of the 6R movement. Now i just get used to it and enjoy it as part of my rotation.

Hamilton khaki navy auto also not bad if you want swiss made one. swatch group watch with ETA movement (tissot, hamilton, certina) have quite decent overall QC for the price.

why would you think I am trolling??

I am not rich, I am not buying watches for investments.
I am buying the watch as a milestone and also as an everyday watch to have it accompany me daily through this new stage in life. hopefully, when I reach the next milestone, I would be able to upgrade my watch again then.

why would you think I am trolling?

Have you considered a pre-owned Grand Seiko quartz?

People might think you're trolling because the level of attention to detail and care that you are asking for is not reasonable to ask for in buying Seiko. It is akin to asking Giordano to check the stitching and find you a t-shirt with no loose ends for you to buy.

How does the community here feel about Homage brands like Steinhart??

It looks really good but it bothers me it doesn't have magnetic shielding:

Also, I am asking based on quality
if you have brand bigotry, please don't comment

watch this:

important is to buy what u like and dont bother about what other feels.
Hello, can folks here please help my eye to learn how to pick out QC issues?

I saw this photo on Reddit and the community there unanimously picked out a lot of QC issues.
Can the Lao Jiaos here please circle issues that you can see in the watch so I can learn visually what to look out for??

thank you!!!

I can see that at the 9 O'clock mark that the outer rotating bezel does not align with the 9'O'clock on the face
am I correct? Is this one of the issues?

honestly i wont bother at all.
just buy and wear, its not like u will be staring at the qc issues all the time.

Can achieve one. You will see. Just don’t be slack.
