hi,

Any recommendation of a watch for a mid 20s guy with a budget of 400 - 800?

Again besides budget
Things to consider
- Japan, Chinese, Swiss watch
- auto, quartz
- dial size
- water resistance, 30m or 200m?
- leather or metal bracelet?
- color?
- function as in chrono? Date day??
- willing to shop online or must see at AD? Grey ok?

Dial size = size of the watch, usually measured by the diameter in mm. Do u prefer a large (> 40mm) or smaller dial?

Function eg chrono = stop watch. The main dial will have smaller sub dials within. Google image to visualise. Day date = date / day displayed on the watch dial

Seiko has lots of models, both quartz and automatic. See my earlier post on locations to view a variety of seiko models. Hope this helps

Would encourage u to buy early (within ur means of cos) if u know what u want as the prices of luxury brand watches just keep getting adjusted upwards about 5% each year. Furthermore, some models may be discontinued or modified, not necessarily for the better sometimes.

For me, was glad i got my sub just before they introduced the engraved "rolex" rehaut (inner ring of the dial) and certainly before they introduced the ceramic bezel with the disproptionate lugs (personal dislike of the new gen rolex sports models)

Yea, I understand. But it's just a 'Want' so I want to be very secure before buying this. There will be many more priorities ahead of me.

What's EA? Chinese??

Online some place offer 60 days full refund policy. This is dress watch on Swiss auto and a 5 yr warranty.
They pay for the shipping to get it service.

This is great price but u wouldn't risk it

In store only can go seiko, orient... Swiss made only mostly quartz.
Entry level mech from tissot possible it is at 700-800 of your budget. No fancy just basic 3 hand maybe a date

There was a post that mentioned the current sovil are not as good as they used to be.

Don't be fooled by the no of jewels. They are synthetic gems there for the metal joints and stuff. Some manufacturers put in more than necessary just to boast they have more.

Read an article about it somewhere on the web......

Last time i got student who work part time in city chain.

sovil is the most problematic watch, alway come back repair.

Anyway... this 40mth marketing gimmick only applies to people who can afford to use one credit card just to buy the watch.

I am into vintage

No, u can combine CCs or even paid some with net or cash to offset the balance as long as u are able to cover the amount u needed to pay for that watch.

So if let said u feel that paying $1250 for 40months to own a $50K watch is too much, u can always paid $20K with cash or net and pay the $30K with CC instalment. It's kind of flexible.

Of course, that only apply to peasant like me..........................:D

Elites paid one lump sum in cash........................:s13:

No worries, can always buy 2nd hand and save up a bit. Prices of Swiss watch do increase every year but it's not really a drastic increment.............................;)

Off topic. But it is really quite a sight seeing people pay for items costing tens of thousands of dollars in cash.

Once saw a PRC buying his female companion a bag from Hermes at the HK airport. He took out rolls of cash from his clutch bag. The notes were fastened with rubber bands of I believe HKD1,000 denomination.

Because cold hard cash is hard to track.

All those stories about PRCs having suitcases of 5million sgd to buy a property on the spot is real.

i agree with Jeremy1... might be "illegal" $$$ and they can't bank them in.

so the only way is to spend spend spend asap, especially on items which don't require them to register their names, passport or ID etc
like food... luxury bags, luxury watches...

I remember a few months back seeing two PRCs at Vivocity's No Signboard having their hightea. ordered a whole table of food but never finish them at all... then paid the bill in cash...

To be honest, at your budget or even upping it to 1K, your German or Swiss made watch will probably be by name only. Thanks to industry standards, manufacturers need only get a Swiss factory to say attach the watch strap to a watch made and assembled in China to qualify for use the term "swiss made" for their product.

OK I am exagerrating but u get the picture.
