Movement, design, workmanship, quality, after sales etc? Which part of the brand is not good?

I had an Engineer II Ohio. I love everything about it. Solid build with great movement accuracy.

Hmmm would prefer a diver/dress style, preferably automatic movement! chronograph would be expensive to service tho. Wow ball watches can be had for less than 2.5k? I always had the impression that their prices are

I have a Ball Cleveland Express...very nice in my opinion, decent Swiss Made watch. Around SGD2.5K two years back.

About watch purchase...buy something you can afford. You can get a Tudor or Omega down the road if not now

Since it will be a gift from your parents, I highly doubt your parents will want to get you a pre-owned piece. You might get lucky with pre-owned omega/tudor if you search hard enough.

You can try Tag Heuer, Longines, Oris, Tissot, Hamilton etc as they are pretty well known brands around that price range. (you won't feel left out from people who don't know any other luxury watch brand other than rolex. )

Stowa and Nomos have some good reputation but the wait is....

I look at looks, quality and character of the watch ( imagine a blind test where you cannot see the brand of the watch), then the brand ( which also carries character la). So far no regrets after 3 purchases.

If you're looking for something dressy, try Frederique Constant. There are some nice ones below $2.5K but looks $25K (or almost)

I remember u saying the mm300 caught your eye right? Decided not to get that?

It's a really great value for money piece given that it's movement is an 8L35, an undecorated and unadjusted version of the high-end Grand Seiko 9S55.
