Guys, I am a novice to watch. Recently taken a liking on them. I am one who takes very good care of my belongings but no matter what we do, there will be accidental knocks or scratches.

What would you do if your expensive watch gets a scratch on its face or crown area?

I am thinking of getting a pre-owned rolex for certain occasions and a cheaper watch for during work.

I am thinking of getting a pre-owned rolex for certain occasions and a cheaper watch for during work.

Scratch on case or bezel will happen. Watches are worn on arms that fling about, why wouldn't it get scatched? That is why the crystal (or face to use your word) of Rolex and many watches is made on Sapphire which is very hard to scratch unless you graze it against some brickwall or floor which may contain particles harder than sapphire.

Scratches on the case and bezel can be brushed off at the service centre of if you know how to do it yourself. Unless it is deep ugly scratches, most people feel they add character, same way people like aged leather that has creased etc as it gives character.

Scratches on crystal can also be rubbed off with some special paste if you know how to do it, but the service centre can replace your crystal at a price of course.

Enjoy your Rolex la...why save it for special occasion? wear it everyday or in rotation with other watches.

Nothing we can do to be honest. Normally sapphire is pretty hardy so shouldn't be so easy to scratch, not saying it's impossible. When such a thing happen either accept it or get it replaced at a high price.

For scratches on case or bracelets, it'll be fine after you accept and learn to live with them.

Scratches are inevitable, especially for daily-wear watches. No matter how careful you are, there is no way to avoid them.

When I was younger, I was very anal about scratches. But through the years, I've learned to have a relaxed attitude about it. That in turn made wearing watches a lot more enjoyable cos there's no cloud hanging over your head to nag you to be careful.

I'm not saying to take your Patek 6002G to go mountain climbing. But take your Rolex Exlorer for a swim or a fun day out to the beach with your family and don't sweat about it.

Nobody in their right minds would constantly whack their watches, regardless of price, so hard that there would be really deep scratches that won't polish out. For the times that it happens, it'd be an accident. For the other small scratches, a decent watch maker or the AD can easily polish them out. Or change the crystal if necessary.

Different people have different tolerance to scratches. I'm one who doesn't bother too much. It's a watch, not my life.

I've told this story many times here. My nautilus got scratched when I was shielding my son's head from an awkward sharp cornered wall at USS. Heartache? Not at all. Gonna be a story when I show him the scratch next time and retell the story.

I understand sapphire crystal is quite hardy and resistant to scratches but the steel / titanium areas are not. Scratches will be ugly on them (I think I have OCD). I heard of the service centre's buffing and cleaning though so maybe have to do it once every 1 or 2 years.

My everyday watch for work is a Seiko automatic less than $100

Plan to get a nicer watch and keep it in my car so I can change to it whenever I want. There are so many beautiful watches here so I'd say Rolex is not the final choice yet. My gf say it's too mature for my age and style.

Is it cheaper in Japan as compared to Seiya (assuming no bargaining is allowed)? I'm contemplating whether to get it from Seiya or to hoot it from Japan.

Theoretically it shd be cheaper as you will get VAT rebate in Japan, and siam SG GST.
Anyway seiya might not have the models you want... For eg my snowflake he is not able to source it for quite some time until recently.
