haha i think the sad thing for me will be i think i wont even be able to tell whether its fake or authentic for vintage.

I managed to find the Seiko as an example of a fake watch. They even want to fake a Seiko....I just cannot believe it.... but anyway. Here it is...see for yourself.

1) Looks real from Far.

2) Close up looks good as well...should have paid attention to details.

3) Close up on behind case...looks good as well

4) Open the case behind at home....too late...a fake

Like I said, I was in a hurry and it is not an expensive piece from the flea market but nevertheless a good experience. Hope you learn something. There is a saying "Good from Far, Far from Good on near"....hahahhaha

Have a few questions regarding automatic watch.

1. Is it ok to buy an automatic watch but maybe only wear once per week? (reason @ question 2)

2. If I wear once per week, it means that there will be few days that it will run out of "power" unless I wind it every day or every 2 days. Do I have to keep it running even if I don't wear it? Will there be any problem with the movement if it doesn't "move" for days/weeks?

3. Can I assume most automatic watch have over winding protection? (or only certain high end watches)

As like any mechanical watch, the problem is the oil will gel pending the type used. The synthetic oil nowadays are much better before it breaks down and gel any movement.

Usually, you can wind up the automatic watches without wearing them. I am not sure what you meant by over winding protection.

Looks too mch like a "homage" to the batman gmt iic. There are quite a few nice F1s around in the boutique. U can slowly decide. Normally i will have a 1 month 'cooling off' period. If i still want it very much then i will go for it.

Your box is so much nicer than mine when i bought it in 2013. I got the old box before they changed to the black polish surface type.

Means like...how many times should I wind the watch to keep the movement running. Assuming winding 20 times is sufficient to last 2 days, what happen if I turn it 100 or 200 times?

No bling bling so less people buy. It dont looked the price tag because all matt and very low profile design. That kind of price not cheap not expensive so less marketable i guess. Haha.

I always tell people get. Seiko. Alot of choices and design to choose from. Not need to take care and a good entry to the mechanical watch world. And not that expensive. U get a lot of watch for the money u pay.

I'd just browse the shops at Bencoolen, Bras Basah or Tanjong Katong complex and choose based on aesthetics. Most likely it will be a quartz or if mechanical it'll be a Seiko or Orient.

hmmmmm Indonesia and Phillipines where I got burnt and I only buy from my regular suppliers whenever I am over there on assignment. My regular suppliers kept those vintage watches for me basically I paid a premium for them to hold onto them until I return. You got to be careful. On the outside they looked genuine but on the inside the movement are doctored. Singapore history is too short and used to be a fishing village. Remember, Singapore turned independent in 1965. Only the rich and those who can afford to buy a decent mechanical watch. I bought boxes and boxes of seiko watches over the years when I was on assignment overseas. The varieties of seiko watches are so awesome. When I got the time, I will bring them out to show you all.

Yeap, always open up the back. It's e easiest to spot fakes from vintages.

But as u said, always get it from reputable dealers/collectors

Where do you usually hunt for vintages in indo ?
