Do take note that the initial boot-up after ROM update will take much longer than usual so don't interrupt the process.

If her phone has sdcard installed, the ROM file will still be there. Check under downloaded_rom folder. Download from here if need-be.

Pro Tip:
Sometimes if you encounter weird issues be it screen/hardware or apps especially after a firmware upgrade go to settings -> installed apps then all apps and clear data for each app especially system apps(eg. Qualcomm units will have qualcomm system apks)
You will not lose much data if you don't clear the contacts apps etc.
This is becos android apps depend heavily on cache data and firmware updates do not clean or rebuild system apk data so the old data will cause weird issues.

1. Rename HM1SG-TWRP-2.5.0.0-stas2z.zip to update.zip and copy file to root of phone internal storage
2. Launch Updater app and select the package to update, ie. update.zip. Hint: use the "..." at the top right hand corner for more option.
3. Phone will reboot and goes into Mi-Recovery, let it complete the installation of TWRP. After which just perform reboot from Mi-Recovery.
4. After phone has reboot, launch Updater app again and select "Reboot to Recovery mode". Hint: tap on the "..."
5. Phone will reboot into TWRP, install beta-supersu.zip and reboot.
6. That's it, your Redmi 1 is now Rooted.


Regarding step-1, think it's possible to store TWRP zip in sdcard and use Updater to install but if something screwed up, Mi-Recovery need the file to be named as "update.zip". I did my via this way so can't comment if without renaming would work or not.

Forgotten to add, TWRP 2.5 still work on Miui 6 (KK) so if one decided to downgraded back to Miui 5, this is a way out.

i tried it and i got stuck when i reboot to recovery. it got me to Mi Recovery 2.0.1. From there, I don't know what to do. Do i have to rename the beta-SuperSUv.2.49 to Update.zip also?

No, if step-1 & 2 work correctly you should end up with TWRP instead. Did you did the renaming for step-1?

More to add:
At step-3, Mi-Recovery will perform the update of TWRP so you will see the completion bar. And after completion, it will return back to Mi-Recovery so use the volume+ and volume- to navigate thru the option. Basically what you want is to perform a reboot, and this will be the last time you ever see Mi-Recovery again.

I rename as per step 1 . Step 1 n 2 works but when coming to step 3 it just reboot ro MI Recovery 2.0.1. I thought i shuld see a lying robot during TWRP boot but i did not.

I even tried the old method which is to press the down vol button together with the power on button but it still goes to Mi Recovery 2.0.1 after i select Recovery mode. no green robot image during boot.

But my redmi is not rooted according to Root checker app.

Shouldn't be, Mi-Recovery will get replaced with TWRP at step-3, you must have perform additional task at that point.

Is your phone Redmi 1 model and did you download the correct TWRP version?
