I had managed to load TWRP successfully.

Place HM1SG file into the root storage of my phone

Placed the root-stable file into the root storage of my SD.

Used "Boot to Recovery" via Updater App and installed HM1SG file successfully.

Removed battery and reload the battery afterwards

Used vol down button + power button to reboot into TWRP successfully.

Managed to locate to root-stable file and installed it.

Rebooted my phone and now SuperSU is installed.

Clicked on the SuperSU app, I am being prompt to update the SuperSU app.

Choose "Continue" option, but was told "installation failed".

Does it mean that my phone is now rooted?

Main intention is to install apps into the SD Card Storage.

The initial steps and follow what weeza77 has stated when come to step-2. Once TRWP is setup, installing other zip package should not be an issue.

I did not try the alternative steps, only sharing what I know from those Chinese forum site. Perhaps the reason it's not working is also due to the set difference, CN one doesn't come with Google Play and SG one have different partition size.

Yup, there are many apps to verify this, MobileUncle is one of them. Updating of SU require Internet connection.

Does it mean that my phone is not rooted?

An update on rooting my redmi1.

I have successfully root my redmi1.

Step 1.
"en[dot]miui[dot]com/thread-17437-1-1[dot]html"

Download the file HM1SG-TWRP-2.5.0.0-stas2z.zip and rename it to update.zip

Step 2.
"download[dot]chainfire[dot]eu/743/SuperSU/"

Download the supersu APK file

Step 3.
Place update.zip file into the root storage of your phone

Step 4.
Place supersu APK file into the root storage of your SD card

Step 5.
Launch "Updater App" -> Select "Reboot To Recovery" option

Step 6.
Select "Install Update" option -> Select the update.zip file -> Let it run and complete installation

Step 7.
Once installation completes, it will says "Update Success".

From here, remove the battery to shut down the phone.

*Need to remove the battery else it will auto reboot into MI Recovery when you press "OK"

Step 8.
Count to 5 seconds, re-insert the battery.

Hold down the Volume Down Button first, Follow by the Power Button.

It will boot into TWRP Recovery instead of MI Recovery.

Step 9.
Select "Install" option -> Select SuperSu APK file in the root storage of SD Card -> Select "Reboot" option once installation completes

Step 10.
Phone will auto reboot -> SuperSU App will appear in the phone

Step 11.
Download "Root Checker Basic" from the app store -> Use it to verify if the root is successfully or not.

I had 6.6.1.0 with MIUI 6 on Redmi 1w. it always report insufficient internal storage, either it uses up so much space or it is a bug. Contacts and recent calls have major issues. applications hang very frequently. so i advise against this version.

now downgraded back to V25. simpler and easier to use. I won't even update to V31 any more. it will stay with me until my next change of phones.

All the android stop process can be fixed by clearing culprit app cache and appdata

Mr expert, how to resolve this problem?

My Redmi 1 has 2 SIM cards and has been rename to Tel1 & Tel2 for slot1 & 2 respectively. After swapping the card around, slot1 still show Tel1 even thought it is SIM2 that is activated.

Although it doesn't effect the working of the phone, it can be confusing at times. I have already tried everything from blanking out the SIM card name or renaming it to something else w/o success! The last thing I can think of is to do a factory data reset.

Well, which other app is related to SIM card? Kindly enlighten me.

Just did a clean data on the Settings app (cache is empty) and also did a wipe cache from recovery as per what jedi5diah suggested.

Anyway it doesn't matter as long as I'm dialing through the correct SIM card.

Just try the whole list and tikam lah definitely one of them.
Previously I had a similar issue and I thought was setting turn out was another app.

before replying, read it properly. i said Redmi 1W, which is the SG version of the original Redmi 1, not 1S.

i didn't root it, but i couldn't install anything bigger with V6.6.1.0, and calls are not recorded.
if u want something stable and clean, back to MIui V5 V25.


My experience with any phone is that, don't do any system update, because the phone is sold in its best condition with its default system version. Its configuration is not sold for future system versions, so unless u know exactly what the upgrade does(chance is u don't), the upgraded version will likely cause slowness or issues.

MiUI V6 is not a stable version, but somehow it is released to the phones. WTF.
if u visit its Miui website, the stable is MIUI V25 for SG version.
Install it and silence the Updater for the rest of its life.

Well, it's "stable" according to Xiaomi. Actually the latest "stable" version for Miui v5 is V31 just that it's not shown on their download page. According to most users, V16 is the most "stable", version after that is just full of bloatware.
