Is there an app that can switch 3g function between the SIM slot?

How is this applicable given that slot 2 only support 2g network?

Your original question did not specify which slot.
For Redmi1, slot2 max capability only 2g, setting to turn 3g not available and not possible. Thus, above setting only applicable for slot1.

Perhaps my initial question wasn't that clear but I did mentioned switching 3g function (not network) between the SIM slot. What I need is for slot 2 to have 3g, and of course slot 1 would be disable as a result until it switch back.

The hardware functionality is fixed but the software (firmware) can be program to re-routed. What I'm asking is not entirely impossible as someone in Xiaomi forum actually mentioned this.

If there is no workaround then slot 2 is useless once 2g network is cut after April 2017.

those slots which support only 2g would be useless....

for the redmi 2, both slots are capable of 4g/3g/2g, but only one at a time can run on 4g or 3g.

in this case, the user can still have two sim cards in the phone, but he has to switch the active sim (and also the defaults for calls and data) via the system app. :s8:

and if one sim is a prepaid card without a data plan, there's a risk of accidentally consuming data at pay-per-use rates

So your mobile broadband SIM on SIM1 can only receive 2G signal now after updating to MIUI 8.2?

Think it happened few updates ago. Didnt bother then as i could use when set to '2G only'.
Using mainly for bus info, Whatsapp and simple browsing. No games or videos.

But now, with impending closure of 2G, will need to set to 3G (can still use set at 2G, Letter next to reception strength shows E).
When set to '3G' or 'Prefer 3G' , says "no internet connection."
Letter next to reception signal strength goes from H+ to H then blank.

Thanks for help, not well versed in using smart phones.

'E' means EDGE connectivity, which is basically 2.5G network. Both 2.5G and 2G will be fully shutting down after 18 April.

Maybe you should consider upgrading your Redmi 1S, since it only support 4G+2G and the SIM2 slot only support 2G which will render it useless soon.

Thanks for explanation.

I have another 3G non-smartphone which i intend to use with my prepaid card., but i would still like to use my Redmi for mobile bb.
Do you think lower version of Miui will help restore slot 1 to 3G?
If i want to do that how do i go about it?
Dont know whether its hw or sw problem.

Thanks for any help.

I also use two Sims. Can someone advise which are the xiaomi phones that cannot be used for second Sim anymore? Find the specs so ambiguous

Sent from OPPO X9009 using GAGT

Older Xiaomi models are the ones not supporting 4G+3G, which are:
- Redmi 1 (3G+2G, SIM2 slot only support 2G)
- Redmi 1S (3G+2G, SIM2 slot only support 2G)
- Redmi Note 3G (3G+2G, SIM2 slot only support 2G)
- Redmi 2 (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Redmi Note 2 (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Redmi Note 3(MTK Helio X10) (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Redmi 3 (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Redmi 3S (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Redmi 4(not the 4 Prime) (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Redmi 4A (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Mi Note (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Mi 4i (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)
- Mi 4c (4G+2G, both slots support up to 4G but only one card will be on 4G at a time)

My parent using the redmi, i bought a new 3G simcard, can't use on this phone. Use the simcard on the other phone and it is working.

Came to this thread, mean slot 1 is 4G, slot 2 is 2G. Mean the 3G simcard i just bought cannot be use on this phone anymore right. :(

Can only use in SIM1 slot because it's the only slot that support 3G.

I suppose your parent is using the Redmi 1 or Redmi 1S?
