Pardon for a noob question and i tried to search on google too. How do we switch to silent mode in MIUI besides going to settings-sounds? Is there a shortcut like the iphone just by switching the icon down. Pardon me as i am a iphone user prev.

You can create a shortcut on your home screen:

Menu -> Edit Home screen -> Press Toggle -> Choose toggle (for your case, select the Ringtone, then the Ring shortcut will add on your home screen, you can switch your phone to silent mode at anytime). Done.

or:

Menu -> Edit Home screen -> Menu -> Add -> Select shortcut (choose which shortcut you want to add). Done.

I remember reading somewhere in this post that we need to install googleplay from redmi store but how come I got googleplay in my default redmi? Have they changed it for local sets?

Only for imported sets. Sg sets are preinstalled.

Thanks! I tried another method which is by pressing and holding down the volume minus button.

Just got my redmi last night. Setup whatsapp but it cannot work if i set data connection to sim card 1. Only work if i set to sim card 2 which is 2g. My whatsapp is using my sim card 2 number. Anyone knows why?

I have seen someone mention here that you can do crossover..
but I don't know where is that post anymore..
you should be able to use data 1 for number 2

Alternatively quick settings also do this. Just drag to switch to the visible area.
