It's a marketing gimmick. It seems quite clear Xiaomi is releasing very limited stocks for its online sales, hence the buzz generated from being sold out in x minutes time.

They are trying (and maybe succeeding) in creating a "scarcity" for their product, so that people will "gian" or crave for it. It's like when you see a long queue for food stall and you think the food has to be good or else why are people queuing?

Making use of social proof techniques to make their product more desirable.

I regret wasting time camping for the online sales and will not waste any more time to be party to such marketing tactics.

Xiaomi's marketing folks should be ashamed of using such tactics and wasting people's time.

We think too much..
it might just be a simple our server cant take the load and stop selling..

It was never limited stock.. the server cant take it.

It's a marketing scam and not a gimmick. As consumers, we have the power to protest and boycott their products. We can not only choose not to buy their products and also make known we are NOT happy with their marketing scams.

I do share your sentiments though we need to pay about $30 for the useless prepaid cards but at least we probably confirmed to get a set?

Yah but you think Starhub has unlimited stock too? I am just waiting for people to post picture of the OOS pictures anytime now.

Funny how all the people cry marketing scam and marketing gimmick after they are not able to get the phones.

Nothing changed from the first online sale, it sold out quick, and you know there is limited stock if it only takes 8 minutes to go to OOS status.

People only make noise if they tried and couldnt get it, if they got it you can sure as hell they would be singing Xiaomi's praises right now.

Only thing here was that some people got the SQL error, and some didnt. That one have to blame RNG god.

Yup, confirmed. They support the TD-CDMA network and not our WCDMA network so if you get, the phone will only work on our 2G network.

The Xiaomi Hongmi 1S will support only China Telecom's own CDMA network (800/1900MHz 3G bands and 850/900/1800/1900MHz GSM ones). However, Xiaomi might release an international version of the smartphone, just like it did with the Hongmi.
