Most custom ROM are still based on MIUI v5 which is still 4.2 (aka Jellybean). I have not come across custom ROM that is based on Android 4.3 as yet.

Depending on the custom ROM that you flash, most of the time you need to flash additional SG boot fix to resolve bootloop issue. Do a search for HM1SG-boot-fix.zip file.

the problem is not many developers willing to cook custom rom on MTK chipset bcause no matter how much they do, the cpu still sucks.

that's why u dun see any MTK cpu on xiaomi already.

Generally, Xiaomi build MIUI 6 with Qualcomm CPU in mind, that's why Xiaomi devices that comes with Snapdragon chipset gets MIUI 6 faster(look at Mi Phone series and the recently-updated Redmi 1s and Note 4G), than its MTK counterparts, eg. Note 3G and Redmi 1).

That's why many people prefer to have Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU in their phone than MTK CPU, with generally better support by custom ROM makers and maybe by manufacturers too.

Sometimes when I call or receive call, the voice of the other party becomes very robotic. Like talking to robot. Cannot make out what the other party is saying.
Frustrated.
Like happened once in abt 20 calls made.

Anyone has this same issue?

For now. MTK still sucks. let be real over here... i have used Redmi 1 before. the performance was horrendous. i sold it after using it for 1wk.

hmm, didn't experience such problem on my Redmi 1s. Could likely be the network problem of the area you are at, not too sure.

EDIT: You may want to dial the service menu in your phone to test the earpiece speaker, by keying *#*#4636#*#* .

you are saying xiaomi is getting out of MTK so that their users can flash custom roms easier?

The bottom line is Xiaomi is only interested in selling handsets, old model like Redmi 1 is already EOL to them so make no business sense to spend additional resources on ROM development.

Darn....i try to update the miui on my redmi 1s....but kenna stuck at 98% updating.....in the end....went to xiaomi service centre to get them to reload back.

i accidentally flashed a wrong wcdma version and unable to boot.

i tried flashing the global firmware v31 via TWRP but still no go
