Oh well, doesn't matter if the sub's got anchor or not, to me that's not important. I feel the most important is the certificate. It's like the IC or passport of the watch. My SE at Sincere Watches always stresses that to me. The cert will give a higher value to the watch. It's a bit soon to be thinking of the next watch I agree. See how long do I fancy the Sub. As of now, I'm pretty happy with it. But there's a likelihood that I'll change to an Explorer II. Hope my liking of the Sub grows. As for Panerai, the price increment for the past 3 years is crazy. My guess is that it'll drop after a while. So... keeping my fingers crossed for that to happen over 2-3 years time.

pre-owned + older series still so expensive...most of the time the saving also not much...

i rather go for brand new with 2yrs warranty....

wonder why ppl are going for second hand one....the price different for some is not really that great....

I dunno about others, but my my decision of acquiring a used Sub is based on the following:
1. My budget is $5k for a Rolex, but to me, it's impractical to get a Sub Non-date at $4.7k. Might as well spend another $300 to get a Sub date.
2. I know I will probably sell my Rolex and get another (explorer II or even SD), so i dun lose too much when I sell the watch.
3. I can definitely do a lot of things with the $2k extra from the savings
4. And subdate has a strong cult following as what I've noticed after doing a bit of research over the last few months, and talking to my SEs and other dealers. I've already received firm offers for it at $5.3k from my customers for my sub. :D

Oh no no, Sincere doesn't have the distri rights to Rolex. My SE from Sincere sold me my speedmaster, but he was formally from Roy Eastern and Dickson, and collects Rolex watches. So he has been giving me advise and recommending to me reliable shops that sell used Rolex watches.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just came back from Tong Center. My Submariner Date is 100% authentic. The
lady was very nice (I was very surprised because she didn't sound as nice
over the phone before I went). I told her that I needed to check for the
authenticity of the watch as I bought it over the weekend from a used Rolex
dealer. She then asked if I needed the certification of authenticity or am I
selling my sub soon to someone else. I was a bit puzzled at first by her
questions. She then explained to me that if I do not need to show anyone the
certificate nor will I be selling this watch anytime soon, I do not need the
cert, and therefore do not need to waste $75. She then offered to do a
pre-service quote for me, which involves the watchsmiths taking a look at my
Sub, and that alone is enough to certify that my Sub is authentic. Cos if
not, they will not even consider servicing it. Having heard that, I asked
her to proceed and also see if any parts need servicing, cos I noticed that
the sub puts on +2 seconds every day (I know, it's still within the COSC
range). She sent my watch in and after 10 minutes, she came out with my Sub
and told me that it's authentic, very new and do not need any servicing (she
took a look at my Sub's certificate as well). The watchsmith had also
demagnetised my Sub and she told me that it should work better. Oh yeah,
she also said that the min service charge is $300 minimum if I chose to take it up :s31:

Just curious, how much does it cost to change the glass cover.
Cos both have scratches, and the black one has the worse scratch ever.
I'll take a better picture tomorrow.
These are taken with night mode. I think doesnt come out clear.
Nod...how much does it take to change the cover of the two?

Seems like both watches use acryllic crystals, so that means they're already pretty old right? I think it'll cost a bomb to change it at Tong Center. The minimum price is already $300 per watch, not inclusive of parts yet. So my advise is to get it seviced at places like Lucky Plaza. There's a small shop with a watchsmith who sells and repairs used Rolexes in a corner in Lucky Plaza level 1. Talked to him last week and he claims that he'd worked as a watchsmith for Rolex for more than 20 years. He's got many Rolex parts. You can try your luck and get him to quote you.

As for servicing, you might want to ask ppl like Marxace or someone else who've done some servicing of them Rolex watches. Personally, I've just asked them to quote that's all. The watchsmith at Lucky Plaza
ever mentioned to me before that he's repaired a few water damaged Rolexes before. The damage is due to rusting. Might have to change the entire movement in the worst case. Dun think it comes cheap though. But u'll definitely get a better price from him rather than at Tong Center. As for changing of Acryllic crystal, I think he does that and he should have some brand new old stocks of the crystal. When I was shopping for a vintage datejust 5 months ago, the used watch dealer (can't remember from where) actually offered to change the acryllic crystal to sapphire crystal... but of course, it's an OEM sapphire and not original from Rolex. Dials can be changed too... I've seen a Submariner 'U' series modified with a diamond studded bezel and a silver face, looks very nice and dressy.

Read b4 that Acrylic crystal cannot change with Sapphire crystal as they dun fit. After market ones may do but whether they last or not no one knows. My fren replaced his acrylic crystal at Tong Building for 400+ inclusive of servicing. If u wanna cut on savings, can try to go unauthorized rolex places but u nv know whether they will change ur parts with unoriginal ones. Theres always a trade off.

Hi Vittra, please go to Lucky Plaza #01-50 and look for Mr Lim for a quote on the repairs needed for your 2 watches.
