Does anyone have any idea how TP-Link's EasyMesh with Ethernet backhaul works vis-a-vis Wifi channel management?

I turned EasyMesh via wired backhaul ON originally only as a means to troubleshoot what I suspected as a routing/switching issue on my network affecting bandwidth throughput at the edge - never trusted mesh tech to deliver bandwidth comparable with ethernet so never bothered with mesh before.

I was surprised my two EB810V EasyMesh via wired nodes use the same 2.4/5/6GHz channels - I only knew of the traditional wireless mesh where nodes listened on one channel and relayed on another. But my two wired nodes are on the same channels with seemingly no hit on throughput due to interference. Am intrigued to learn more - e.g. do the nodes actively communicate and handoff devices as they roam between them so they know to ignore signals not intended for the node? Tried Googling but found zilch...

1. The detail working of consumer mesh and roaming technology is actually a very difficult technical topic.

Many of them are based on 802.11 k/v or 802.11 k/v/r but add some proprietary technology (eg: Asus AImesh, TP-Link Deco, Netgear Orbi, Linksys Velop). WiFi.org tries to come out EasyMesh which is vendor neutral in theory but not that successful in practice.

Enterprise AP vendors have more advanced technology to manage the AP (through a controller).

But in the end, it is the client which decides the roaming.

As of now TP-Link Easymesh is not as good as TP-Link's own Deco mesh or the higher end Omada mesh (small enterprise grade)

My 10gb plan is the 1x nokia ONR, i realised my room very weak signal wanted to buy another beacon 2 to extend my signal, realised i have 2x Nest wifi pro spares, so ethernet backhauled 1x in my MBR and 1x in my study room. With the same ssid

Now my whole house coverage is good. Becos was thinking to buy 2x b810v from carousell. Now save $700+.

So on the MLO staying ON in EasyMesh agent/mesh node despite being set to OFF in controller/main ap issue, TP-Link support has replied:

" Thank you for contacting TP-Link support.
Your kind feedback is really appreciated and is a valuable advice for us to improve our product. Our relative colleagues have been aware of that and confirm that there is an update for it soon.
It is very suggested to keep an eye on update. "

So we can keep an eye out for a firmware update fix 'soon'.

SH keep saying firmware update soon but it never arrives. Current firmware is dated 22 Jan 2024, which is more than 6mos ago!

For which other bug/issue did SH (or TP-Link) promise a firmware fix though?- good to know in case it affects me but I’m not yet aware.

Is anyone using the MLO network connection? I been testing it with MSI MSI herald-be ncm865, but does't seem to be very fast .. in fact seems to be slower then normal 5GHZ network and quite unstable too. Both Starhub BE810v and MSI WIFI 7 card are using latest drivers.

what would be a good way to test the network speed when connected via 5HZ network and MLO network?

MLO does not help on the speed as of now, wait for Windows 11 24H2 release then it may be useful. You may want to turn off MLO as of now.

N0. 1/2/3 are clearly bugs.

With regard to No 4, 240MHz for 5GHz channel bandwidth, I know TP-Link like to advertise this so that they can claim BE22000 than BE19000, but in reality it is difficult to get that working, maybe much more difficult than 6GHz 320MHz channel bandwidth.

Just forget about 240MHz channel bandwidth for the 5GHz band and treat BE22000 the same as BE19000.

Yes that is an okay way. The Linksys Velop MX4200 is compatible with your existing Linksys Velop (triband AC2200, three pack).

You may need to have two wireless networks, one using the existing EB810v, another using the Linksys MX4200 plus Linksys Velop.

In fact you may not even need to get the Linksys Velop MX4200, just reuse the current Linksys Velop triband AC mesh system along with the new EB810v WiFi 7 router.

Anyoje having issues with the EB810v dropping connection? Several times a day my work VPN gets disconnected and at the same time my wife Teams call gets cut off halfway. However wifi signal is still there. Rebooting seems to help somewhat but it tends to come back every now and then.

normal weekend wifi no disconnection. my is basic setup though, no mesh mlo etc.

only issue is downloading files, sometimes need to retry a few times, like for instance recent ios update.

there is definitely need firmware upate to patch many annoying bugs!

I have the same experience on some of my devices, it's a random and sudden disconnect and it will reconnect after a while.

I am going to try and disable my MLO connection and see if it helps

Someone on the thread did a hardware exchange but I am hoping to avoid that. I have 02 x EB810V on Mesh network

I just recontracted my old Starhub plan to the Homehub+ UltraSports 10Gb plan ($45/mth). I also got the EB810V with ONT at $15/mth extra.

I am now trying to figure out how to modify my home network and will appreciate any help or advice on how to do this.

Currently, I've got an ASUS GT AX11000 router with LAN connections to my Synology NAS (which I use to store 4K movies and old format video files, and documents/files that I access via internet), a 4K media player, 4K smart TV, my old XBoxOne. I've got two LAN points near the router that connects to two bedrooms that my sons occupy but these LAN points are currently not used. My boys do the usual teenager stuff like online gaming, spotify, streaming videos (one of them bought a 4K smart tv recently), and I plan to connect these LAN points to my new router.

There are 5 members in my family. The only weak WiFi signal so far is in a corner of my Master Bedroom, and my wife or I just switch to mobile data when the connection is not good enough.

This is my plan and I'm not sure if it works. I'm thinking of using the new EB810V as my main router after the ONT. I would like to connect my AX11000 to the 10Gb port to serve as a 2nd router. Is this advisable? It should look something like this:

Main Router (EB810V)
10Gb port --> AX11000
2.5Gb port --> Room 1 --> switch and/or (wired mesh?) --> gaming laptop (thunderbolt?), 4k Smart TV, smart speakers
2.5Gb port --> Room 2 (assume same as Room 1)
2.5Gb port --> Starhub TV Set Top Box --> Living Room 4K Smart TV

2nd Router (AX11000)
2.5Gb port --> Synology NAS
1Gb port --> Media Player --(HDMI)--> Living Room 4k Smart TV
1Gb port --> XBoxOne --(HDMI)--> Living Room 4K Smart TV
1Gb port --> (assume spare for now)

Will the above setup work?

Will the devices in both routers be able to properly link to one another? For example, will my son in Room 1 be able to access the files stored in my NAS and watch it on his Smart TV?

Will my NAS function properly, as it is now connected to the 2nd router? Can access the internet, download stuff, upload stuff, etc?

Or will it be better to just ditch the AX11000 and just buy a switch? I like the AX11000 as its a tri-band (1x2.4Ghz, 2x5Ghz) and I dont have any complaints from my wife n three boys and WiFi connections / strength.

Of course my family uses the WiFi for their devices like handphones, tablets and laptops. Other devices using WiFi are smart speakers, printer, robot vacuum, fridge, kitchen smart appliances etc.

Will appreciate advice from the experts here.

you need to go to their outlets and request for it. also, make sure it's stated black & white to avoid any miscomm...
