Is the EB810 provided by SH tweaked /adjusted /customized compared to those units sold in retail shops?

EB810V is ISP model you won't find this in shops like Challenger etc.
Retail version is EB800 not ISP model.
The firmware is SH customized to support SH network but no one knows what exactly are
the customization.

Default SSID are also different from retail version.

https://www.challenger.sg/products/...ri-band-wi-fi-7-router?variant=41678261715019
So retail version is EB800 but the unit issued by SH is a customization of EB800.?

Meaning this EB800 will not be optimised to for users subscribed to non SH broadband?

I will be getting my EB800 today.

No I doubt both the same.
Depend which ISP you are using but if you are using ISP like SH.
Is best to get from SH which will be much cheaper than you buy from Challenger.

Retail version can work with any ISP not just SH, Singtel, M1, Simba etc.

No EB810v from retail shop. It is a TP-Link service provider model, only from StarHub.

Same for HB710, only from StarHub and MR.

HB410 is also only from StarHub.

Same for HB810 and HB611-SGST, only from SingTel.

More about TP-Link Service Provider Models.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/service-provider/wifi-router/

In general, they lack some firmware features and the firmware updates, compared to consumer model.

To average users, it is actually fine to go with the default ISP bundled router. EB810v seems to have a bit more issues than other models like HB710. However, the wireless coverage of EV810v is reported to be quite a bit better than HB710.

I bought HB710 from StarHub at S$192 for my StarHub 5Gbps plan (no free HB710 in early 2025 for the 5Gbps plan), then I have an older Huawei AX3 Pro as AP to cater for legacy clients.

Then for my SingTel 5Gbps plan, I have more advanced setup with OpenWRT main router plus TP-Link Archer BE805 or Asus TUF-BE6500 as main AP. I have the older Asus RT-AX86U in AP mode to serve legacy clients.

The retail model TP-Link Archer BE800 is not the same as EB810v.

If you like the consumer model and you are willing to pay for Archer BE800, just go for it.

There is a much cheaper option : TP-Link Archer BE805, less than S$300 BNIB, dumped by M1 users. The HW spec is not as good as Archer BE800 though because no 2.5Gbe ports. I bought the Archer BE805 at S$300 in early 2025 from an M1 user here.

nah,
I am happy with my ASUS RT-AX86S for now...
once the setup is down and I am getting the speed that I had subscribed to...
I will disconnect the Eb810 and used the asus unit ..
once i had shifted to my new place in june, the EB810 will go to the DB while the Asus will function as AP in places where signal is poor.

Yes, that is a fine option, using EB810v as the main router in the DB Box and RT-AX86S as an AP. Good thing is that you will have functional 10Gbe/2.5Gbe LAN ports in the rooms.

RT-AX86S is the lower version of RT-AX86U, with similar wireless performance.

But if you want to have better roaming performance in the future, you can replace RT-AX86S with an HB710 to form TP-Link EasyMesh. That is optional and not required now.

Hi i just gotten a HB810v , im a M1 user , i was thinking of replacing it in the DB but when i connect to it , it gives ! logo, but when i conenct back to my BE805 its working fine. Is it not compatible to connect in this manner ?

Secondly when using it via ethernet for my bedroom, from my BE805 (10gb lan output) to HB810v 10g ethernet and 10gb lan output to PC, i suffer a decrease in speed, i can only get about 1800gbps vs 2300++ gbps to my PC, direct from BE805 10gb output ?

Thirdly, from the 2nd way of connection, Wirelessly, i can only find hb810v MLO SSID or 6ghz , i cant find 2.4ghz or 5ghz. Is this normal ? Thank you

I think your HB810V not configured properly.
Did you buy second hand or?
Do a factory reset than you can set all the options include 2.4ghz, 5ghz, WIFI 7 and MLO.

However I recommend turning off MLO as it's rather dedudant.

Apprently i need to do a clean setup without any cable connection and then link to aginet app to configure the speed and SSID to see the 2.4ghz 5ghz instead of just directly MLO. Then configure the router, seems like not a plug and play router from what i initially thought to be.

Don't worry a lot are like you.
They thought router is plug and play, buy from Challenger than plug in.
While in fact you need to configure and run the setup.

Second hand set will be more troublesome as some do not reset their router
before selling.
For me I will always reset first than I sell.

For setup wise use traditional band like 2.4ghz, 5ghz or WIFI 6/7.
MLO band is a band that combine all 2.4ghz, 5ghz and WIFI6/7 together.
Which in my testing is pretty useless.
