You need to get a hybrid tuner that can also accept AV input for eg the AverMedia Volar HX or the Leadtek PalmTV. The Starhub paid channels will have to go through the set-top box first for decoding then into the hybrid tuner via the AV inputs (otherwise nobody will subscribe to Starhub :)). You will need to use the set-top remote to change channels for the subscription cable channels.

watch one and record another channel simultaneously can be done using dual tuner card and the bundled avertv mediacenter software. windows mce is not necssary lo.

but to watch one record one must be from same source (analog tv or digital tv, not from AV input)

does running in Vista Enhanced Video Renderer(EVR) makes HD5 run smoother than in XP?

So still have to use set-top remote to change channels ah... That's troublesome because the set-top box is in the living room and my computer is in another room :o

No need Windows MCE ah, ok that's good :D But does this work for Starhub paid channels? From surefire's confirmation that the channel switching needs to be done by the set-top box, it seems that I cannot watch one record one for Starhub subscription channels. Is that true?

If you want to avoid having to run av cables from your set-top box to your pc, you can look into getting a wireless transmitter cum receiver set. This is how I watch subscription cabletv in the bedroom eventhough the set-top box is in the living room. Mine is the "two-way" type that allows me to use the set-top remote in the bedroom to change the channels without having to go to the living room. Easily available in SLS - i think ard $100-$150 or so - can't remember exactly
