Uob one account more worth the effort if you have $75k savings.

I see, I will top up to hit $75k. How about my UOB preferred platinum visa card btw? Seems like I will need to ditch it as my primary expenses card (and hence won't be able to earn 4mpd) since I will have to use the UOB one card instead to hit the minimum $500 spend? That's my dilemma haha

Im still on TX account + UOB Direct Debit card. Want to change to UOB One.

UOB One Account and UOB One card different thing right?

Can just upgrade to UOB One Account and tie my Debit card to UOB One account?

Intended to change some years ago, but the person keep telling me about saving plans, thus in the end never sign up. Isit a must to hv a saving plan w UOB One?

If yes maybe i change to other bank less hassle.

There is no "upgrade" from TX to One account. U can apply for One account and request them to link your debit card to your One account. The savings plan is not compulsory but u do need to meet a minimum of $500 spending per month to qualify for higher interest rate.

If I remember correctly, there was a promo where u will get higher sign up bonus if u sign up for One account and card at the same time but not sure if the promo is still around.

If I were to pay for my monthly insurance premiums from HSBC Insurance, Aviva and Prudential via GIRO (debit from UOB One account), will these 3 GIRO transactions qualify for the bonus interest?

I would suggest keeping the TX account since it is no longer available and has no minimum balance. Just open a separate UOB One account.

UOB One is a checking account so you might have to change account number if you "upgrade" anyway.

You can ask them upfront if they earn commission for the savings plan. They are obliged to disclose this to you. If they say that they do, just say no.

It is not really a "savings" plan, they push people to buy an insurance ILP from Prudential. For sure they get commissions on that, they wouldn't be pushing clients so systemically otherwise.

But this is just them trying extract more money from clients and lock them in (these kind of plans have major surrender penalty unless close to their term which is measured in decades).

No need to get trapped, just open the one account online for example. Or go to the branch, let them open the account for you, but politely decline their "savings" offer (if you find it hard to say a direct no in person to person situations, just say something like "thank you I'll think about it and come back to you later").

Went to OCBC, the personal banker said "help to support me."
I was thinking i first time see you, how to support u?

Anyway, just say no.

It's a personal preference.

I upgraded my uob savings to one account and retained everything the same.

Took up the savings plan with Prudential as well.

Less reason to taking up "savings plan" given insurance is not going to earn rebate.

Receive a call from uob.

Ask me if my uob one card is paying for insurance by the bank.

No.

Caller seems glad that I'm not.
