do we need to cancel the existing Giro payment arrangement with the insurance company (and the credit card company)?

else will double-pay or not? (cardup pays to insurance company, insurance company continues to bill credit card company via Giro)

No need to cancel as Long as you pay early thru Cardup. For example IRAS trigger giro collection 7days before due. So u hav to make sure IRAS receive funds before they trigger. Similar applies to other merchants

How Cardup works is that they charges u a fee when u pay through them (by credit card) and they will bank transfer to your insurer your premium amount. U dont have to involve your insurance agent as it is treated like a bill payment in iBanking.

Thanks for your reply :)

So they will need information like the account number for the transfer of the premium right? :s11:

thanks man. so it's like, because cardup pay the insurance company first, the balance becomes zero and the company will not charge the credit card.

sounds legit :)

Only need to choose the insurer then indicate policy number and name. CardUp will display the name, address and bank account of the insurer once you select the insurer.

Sharing what I did when I first started using cardup many years ago. I check the insurer's website for bank account number for telegraphic transfer and tally to the bank account number in cardup. I also did a test by paying $131 (because there is a minimum fee charge) then check that my insurer received the payment before paying the rest.

Thereafter every year I just make sure it is the same bank account number when I pay my annual premium.

BTW, my insurer is Great Eastern. NTUC Income cannot be paid through cardup.

Ques

Sadly my cut off date for new statement is 22nd which is after the announced date of the cease of rebate for grab top up. Can I ask

My quarterly months are
Jan 22 - Feb 22 - > 2k grabpay top up + 5% additional rebate
Feb 22 - March 22 - > 2k grabpay top up + 5% additional rebate
March 22 - April 22 - > if I do 2k normal spending using the card, however I top up grabpay before the ceased date on eg March 1, do u get the 5% additional rebate for this tier?

Usually for insurance companies, they will use only 1 bank account for the receiving of all premium payments? I'm worried they use more than one and will transfer wrongly lol

Great Eastern has only 1 bank account for S$ payment.

You can login to cardup and see the bank account number for your insurer. Then check with the insurer whether that is correct before paying.

Thank you for the information, was wondering did you set the payment deadline in CardUp as the date that you are supposed to pay to the insurer, or a few days in advance, so as to make sure the insurer doesn’t charge to the credit card company?

For example: premium due date (date that credit card is normally charged) is 15th, so if we set premium payment on CardUp for the 15th, CardUp will charge us on 12th and issue payment between the two dates. But is it possible the payment by CardUp gets delayed, then the credit card charges, then becomes a double payment? So is it advisable to set deadline earlier?

I don't have recurring charge against my credit card so I just have to ensure that payment is received by due date.

I generally will pay at least one week earlier just to be sure that I have time to check that payment is received a few days before due date. Afterall this is charging to credit card and whether I pay at the beginning of billing cycle or end of billing cycle does not make a difference. But do plan based on your card billing cycle. So far cardup has made payment on the date scheduled.

My opinion is that should preferably stop the recurring charge. Different organisations have different timing for generating their GIRO files to send to the banks for deductions ie X number of days before deduction date. Before stopping it, best to schedule earlier for cardup payment.

UOB has given like 1 mth notice. So start to plan the dates.

Let say, my prudential ins is having 2.4k premium yearly and due in June. Can i cardup, and make payment early like Apr pay $800, May pay another $800, and June pay the last $800. By doing this, i can spread my spending to 3months, try to get the $2k quarterly spend on uob one.

* I don't have cardup now and don't really knows how it works.

Will this workable?

No way to get additional 5% for March 22 - April 22. Still get additional 5% for first 2 months (posted before 16 Mar) if got quarterly rebate.

It is workable.

Thanks for your confirmation :).

Does Prudential allow advance payment (of earlier two months), i mean will prudential recognise these 3 splits payments and consolidate them for the policy paid? Just covering all tracks before i proceed to apply cardup.

On my statement it state that my quarter is from Dec to Feb and statement date is 15. Does it mean I need to spend from 15 Nov to 14 Feb, or 15 Dec to 14 Mar?

quite weird to get a $0.30 rebate in my 15 Jan bill... I had spent $1000 in 15Nov to 14Dec, $1000 in 15 Dec to 14 Jan, $1000 in 15 Jan to 14 Feb (each month 5 times of grabpay)

Month 1: 16Nov to 15dec
Month 2: 16dec to 15jan
Month 3: 16jan to 15feb

The $0.3 rebate is for the 0.3% in 2019 when u did not meet spending for quarterly rebate.

Quarterly rebate will be credited to offset spending at end of 4th month (or later month where there is spending till the rebate is used up)

I suggest you call prudential customer service (or even better, write to them to get black and white) to confirm that they allow pre-payment of annual premium part by part...

don't just trust everything you read in a forum like this.

I'm also thinking of using CardUp to pay for my Prudential premium (PruFlexiCash). So I emailed them to confirm the banking details on CardUp's site for Prudential, and to see if there's anything I need to do on Prudential's side to prevent double payment on my credit card.

This is their reply.

Please allow us to explain that we do not have such facility as our payment method.

"CardUp is an online card payments platform for cash management which enables any payment made by bank transfer today to be shifted to a credit card, regardless of whether the recipients accept credit cards."

This is because for our insurance policies, we are only able to accept Singapore-issued Visa and MasterCard credit cards from DBS/POSB, Citibank, Maybank, Standard Chartered, OCBC and UOB.

Customers will be able to set up their credit card payment arrangement for their regular premium policies online at the following platforms:

1.PRUaccess (https://pruaccess.prudential.com.sg/pruaccess_sg/)
2.iPay (https://ipay.prudential.com.sg/ipay/)

Has anyone successfully used CardUp to pay for their Prudential premium? I'm guessing their reply just means they don't officially accept CardUp as a payment method, but once the payment is transferred to them, it would still count.

Either way, it would be good to get some confirmation from people who has done this before.

Can use CardUp to pay for Prudential premium. To Prudential it is just a bank transfer.
