They didn't just changed that. UOB also increased the redemption numbers required for almost all their stuff. Typical increase seems to be in the range of 10%.

well, lucky the miles redemption rate is still the same, else i think many ppl will be complaining haha :s13:

does anyone know if sub card spending goes into the min 1k or each card is dependent?

I would expect it to be sub card is added to main card spending for calculation.

thanks in advance to anyone who have the answer...

I will not be using this card for transactions in China in the future. Just returned from a trip to Zhuhai. No matter how you insist that you want to be billed in RMB and the merchant insists you WILL be billed in RMB and even got you to tick the box that says to bill in RMB and the receipt says default payment is in RMB. But when the transaction came through it was in SGD. :( UOB says it's nothing to do with them. I would have to go back to the merchant to reverse the charge and rebill etc. How to do that when I am back in SG already?:( This happened with not one transaction but 2 transactions. One was from a restaurant in a hotel. And one was from a hotel which gave me 2 invoices for 2 separate stays. The first went through nicely in RMB. However, the 2nd went through in SGD. Don't ask me why the inconsistency. There is no way to ensure that the transactions will eventually be posted in foreign currency until the charge appears on the website listing. Anyway I take this experience as tuition fees.

This is nothing to do with the Banks in Singapore, but the way the merchants operate in China. For them, I suspect they do not know (or don't care) to select transaction amount in CNY. It happened to me several times using CitiBank, HSBC and UOB Cards. As such, sometimes, I just use UOB PrivMiles Amex or Citi PM AMEX cards in China since for these transactions, it will always be billed in CNY, as AMEX at the moment do not have DCC facility.

Yeah, I use UOB PRVI Miles Amex in China. The potential of being charged with DCC and earning super low miles is too high. This is potentially worse for UOB Visa Signature since the DCC'ed amount does not count towards the $1k minimum foreign spend.

This is still viable in the Tier 1 city where there is decent Amex acceptance, especially in areas where you are likely to find laowai; tourist & business districts. For foreign hotel chains, this is also doable. Do note that even these have the DCC traps as well. However, I have had reasonable success writing back later and having them reverse the charges and re-charge in CNY (did this with a Hilton and a Hyatt).

Outside of that, you just try your luck or pay with cash. Rule of thumb I use in China is that as long as you see SGD on the slip, have them cancel the transaction. 99.99% of the time, these will be DCC'ed regardless of what you circle, cross, tick or tell them & you will have 0 to no chance of getting your bank in Singapore to do anything about it.

You are right on this point. Was in KL last week and bought some items using my Visa Card. Informed the cashier that I wanted to pay in MYR instead of SGD and they assured me that they have done that. Just logged into my online account and it was billed in SGD via DCC. :(

I had wanted to pay using AMEX but they do not accept.

You need to wait 3 months. So its prolly around this period of time. My suggestion is for you to continue to wait until feb, and if you don't see it. Call them to chase.
