auto revert. i didnt do anything.

That is strange. The revert to previous version is buried in the settings and need user confirmation. I will be pissed if win 10 suddenly auto reverted back to win 8. Need to spend time to upgrade again.

Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery > Go Back to Windows 'x' > Get started

If anyone is keen.

I thought the licence key given for Windows 10 is different from the one you have for Windows 7/8.

So the old one will be invalid ah ?

The Win 10 license key (or product key) is probably generic. MS is relying on the hardware specs to determine activation status. The product key is not really that important.

As to whether the old license keys will become invalid after the 30 days period to revert has expired, there is no clear answer yet.

Think I'll hold on for a clearer answer.

Quite simple to install ma.
[1] Activate current windows.
[2] Download from mediacreation make thumbdrive.
[3] Doubleclick while in windows on the ISO created.
[4] Clean install with validated copy of Win 10.

P.S. I see too many people doing weird pattern badminton like install 10 get CD key then roll back 7 then ??? then Win 10 lol.

Tio all sorts of weird drivers issue.
When in Win 10 install all win 10 ready drivers will do from the product website. Then connect to internet to install those outstanding ones. Less prone to get driver conflicts.

It's not generic. I used produkey program to extract the key out of my PC and as well as my brother's, both in Win 10 PRO. Both are different.

Are your Win 7/8 retail or OEM?

All 3 of my Win 10 Pros upgraded from OEM Win 8.1 Pro have the same product key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T.

My 8.1 pro retail also give the same win10 generic key.

My 8.1 pro retail also give the same win10 generic key.

Since your key is retail, you might want to consider rolling back to 8.1 Pro until there is some clarity on whether your upgraded Win 10 Pro can be transferred and/or whether you will lose the Win 8.1 Pro retail key.

Too late. You better don't rollback. There are problems with rolling back.

+1. Not sure about others. When I rolled back, the PC feels kinda weird and sluggish.

In the end clean install Win 10 again. Now I'm happy with it after yesterday's update.
