Guys, how would you compare the 3 airlines ? (Delta vs United vs AA)
Of relevance here is the quality of service, aircraft and cabin (in particular business class), food, and so on.
Price quoted is not significantly different among the 3 for the particular date and route (SIN to Mid-western state) that I am enquiring, so it's not a differentiating factor here.
Thanks for any inputs!

Pick one with the least stopover.
I would drop AA, Midwest you have Chicago the united hub. Minneapolis or Detroit - delta hub.

If Chicago your final stop - no need to choose USA airlines.

My destination is actually not one of those major hubs, therefore it's unavoidable to take those US airlines. And I don't have the flexibility to buy separate tickets for the hub and for the US domestic. Bottomline, I'm stuck with either one of these 3.

Avoid United 777's old business class - u'll be seating 2-4-2 like economy style.
Their new Polaris seat is being launched on newer planes but unlikely to get if you traveling this year.

You are stuck, pick united or delta anyone that give you multiple flights to your destination city from their hub. In case of delay or what u have more options

Go Amazon search for H2O SIM card only. usually 0.01$ and free delivery. Buy and check out, set the address to the first hotel of your trip. remember to put clearly your name and hotel booking number. To be safe you can buy a few from different vendor and Email the hotel with your booking number to inform them.
Once check in, put in your H2O sim card and use hotel WiFi to activate and topup value to use the plan to your needs.

H2O is using AT&T network. Works in most area.

No need to buy from those seller in the forum charging high premium.

Hi, i'm planning to use your strategy.. May I ask, upon activation of the sim-card, do we then buy the so-called "Monthly Unlimited Plan" in H2O website?
https://www.h2owirelessnow.com/mainControl.php?page=planMonth
Will it not be renewing & charging our credit card every month?
And have you tried buying with Singapore credit card? Just worried that some websites only take USA credit card.
Thanks for info!

If your stay is 3 weeks or less, I suggest you save the hassle of buying sim card & plan and instead pop by a t mobile outlet to purchase the tourist plan instead.

$30 for 3 weeks of unlimited data (first 2gb at 4g) and some amount of calls and text

Yes my stay is less than 3 weeks. But I checked T-Mobile store locations, nearest from my hotel is 1.5 miles away.
As such, the H2O method above will be more convenient (because it's only done online).

Hihi

based on this route of yours, is there a option to cut through Yosemite?

I came up with a short cut through Yosemite

Is this route possible?

  • 1 SFO
    2 SFO
    3 SFO
    4 SFO
    5 Napa
    6 Yosemite
    7 Yosemite
    8 Yosemite
    9 Las Vegas
    10 Las Vegas
    11 Las Vegas
    12 Grand Canyon South Rim
    13 Grand Canyon South Rim
    14 Antelope Canyon
    15 Antelope Canyon
    16 Palm Spring
17 DESERT HILLS & CAMARILLO PREMIUM OUTLETS??
    18 LA
    19 ??
    20 ??
    21 Santa Monica
    22 LAX

Not sure if anyone else has anything else to add in to my itinerary? any suggestions? Plenty of days to fiddle with. Perhaps any shopping places to recommend during the trip? Plenty of nature so was thinking if LA is a good place to shop and its at the last part of the trip, wouldnt need to carry so much during the road trip.

And i was thinking to dump the car once I reach Vegas then rent it once I leave for Grand Canyon. When i reach LA i shouldnt be needing the car even if i were to head to Santa Monica?

Not between SF and LA, but...

You might want to have a look at a map. Napa is two hours' drive north of SF; that's fine. Death Valley is eight hours east of San Francisco; South Rim GC is six hours east of Death Valley; and Antelope Canyon (not Antelope Valley, that's something different and much less interesting) is two hours east of the South Rim GC.

Here, I sketched out the route you're talking about in Google Maps. This is a solid week-and-a-half's touring right here.

You've got a couple of options:

1) Ditch Yosemite and Death Valley. Fly SF-Vegas; rent a car out of Vegas; do the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, and maybe the Painted Desert and Meteor Crater since you're out that way. Drop the car back at Flagstaff or Las Vegas; fly from there to Los Angeles.

2) Drive SF-Yosemite-Death Valley-Vegas, and do the above-mentioned loop from there. Drive back from Antelope Canyon to Vegas, then to Palm Springs, then to Los Angeles and dump the car. This would be my preferred option, but it really depends how much you like driving, because this is nearly 3,000 kilometres. I love road trips, so I think this is a fantastic idea; my 70-something parents did basically the same trip in April of 2016, going even further into Colorado and New Mexico; but your mileage may vary.

Depends a lot on where you rent out of (SF is more expensive; Las Vegas is cheaper); and whether you do a loop or a one-way rental (one-way is a bit more expensive).

Avis is showing me $600 USD for a two-week rental, SFO-LAX one-way, of a Ford Fiesta hatchback; something with a bit more space is going to run you closer to $900 USD.

The same rentals out of Las Vegas as a loop (so dropping back to Vegas as well) are weirdly a bit more expensive: $50 cheaper for the hatchback, $50 more expensive for the larger cars. I have no idea why larger cars are more expensive out of Vegas, but there you go.

Hi all,

I am a late joiner to this thread. :D

What is an acceptable promotion price range to fly from Singapore to LA?

Is this a gimmick - $1125 per adult all-in return flight? http://www.qatarairways.com/sg/en/special-offers.page

This is what i found (cheapest in the following date range) when i validated against Zuji:

Qatar - 1st Oct 17 yo 20th Oct 17 for e.g.:
  • SIN->DOH->LAX: 2:25 AM -> 1:30 PM (26h 5m - 1 stop)
  • LAX->DOH->SIN: 3:00 PM -> 9:15 AM (26h 5m - 1 stop)

Note: cost is a primary concern to me. :D

I accept $600 to $1.2k, but my range no one falls to what I can accept no use. Your qns is what industry normal price range when can you get lowest priced fare? Is LA your final destination?

My in law flew and we paid usd$350 for his round trip last yr. That's the lowest I seen

Why check on Zuji instead of on the airline (in this case Qatar) website?

It's $1,121.90 on Qatar's website (+- one/two days)

When there are promos on Delta, fares can be slightly below $1k or just slightly above $1k. China Eastern, Air China, promo prices below $1k, sometimes $800 to $900 range. Air China can do open-jaw with quite a number of US/Canada cities.
