1. isn't knotts in Buena Park? anyway desert hills/Camarillo is ~1.5hrs drive away

2. vegas, there is an outlet by the strip super close. I like more ulu outlet. I get better selection, no Asian tourist buying out the sizes. LOL

3. from the city of pleasanton to Gilroy outlet is just 1hr away.

only vegas u can get to outlet on public transport, others its long man. if u shop like man, its heavy carrying that much stuff to ride the bus with ppl.
if u return late will u feel comfortable riding the bus?

Hmmm... sorry.. but any idea what are the more ulu outlet? i see the Gilroy/camirilo are the main ones that ppl head to..

jingle: dosen't make a big difference regarding the size imo. I went to 6 different premium outlets in sf/la/vegas.

you can check out great mall in SF, as good as a premium outlet. its inbetween gilroy and SF city itself. gilroy is considered relatively ulu already. just a small town with the premium outlet, nothing much. if you're going to drive there, suggest you stay 1 night at gilroy inn which is just beside the premium outlets, free parking + several eateries/restaurants near by.

Did you all go to Muir Woods? I stay near Union Sq any free ( garage ) parking there?

If you want any free parking motel, then those motels at Lombard St are your best bet. The stretch where the Mel's Diner Lombard St branch.

Napa is pricey. I didn't stay there but go for dinner only and experience driving at night in country roads. :D

Went to Yountville to dine at Bottega's. If got money I suggest you go to the neighbor restaurant Bouchon.

Yes can try Cow Hollow Motor Inn, and the rest of the Motor Inn which are related.

Any recommendation for lunch at Napa around Rutherford? I'm heading there for a wine tour+tasting in the morning, then heading towards Sonoma for wine+olive oil tasting.

I drove thru Big Sur towards LA from SF. If you gonna make a day trip, I suggest you start early (beat traffic to get out of SF), do Carmel - 17 mile drive + Big Sur + Point Lobos. Mcway Falls is a good point to turn back towards SF. (Note the falls cannot be seen from the road, so pre-plan and find a way to get down, it's beautiful)

If you have extra time, you might consider using highway 1 up to Monterey also, then can go thru Santa Cruz, if not I suggest you just go thru 101 up till Monterey then go to highway 1, it's alot faster

U did both 17mile and Point Lobos? A lot of ppl told me PL >> 17 mile.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McWay_Falls How to access?
Although it can be viewed via a trail from above, the beach and scenic cove below is difficult to access by land, however, it could be easily reached by boat. Even with this possibility, it is not recommended that people visit the beach as a safety precaution due to crumbling cliffs and environmental reasons.

I'm not sure if I'd drive to McWay, Bixby is like 30mins away.

How long did you spend at Point Lobos?

I had a night in Monterey because I was driving down to LA, so I probably had abit more time. Point Lobos is more natural, Carmel can feel abit more commercialised. I think about 1-2 hours is good enough for PL.

Oh, forgot to mention, if you are driving to point lobos, do keep in consideration, the carpark can be rather crowded, good to schedule that as your first point of visit.

thanks alexljy, I read that most park at Highway 1 not inside hor.

Thinking of muir woods too to see the redwoods. What about Big Basin I'm not sure if it's too stretching if I include this on my path south from SF > Big Basin > Point Lobos > Big Sur .

hi genie, have plans to stay in yountville during my trip next yr. How was bottega's?

Dining environment very nice. The food is typically very Italian with a twist of some fusion elements. I tasted this strange sashimi that is served on a block of ice cold salt slab. Interesting. Yet to try Bouchon. Friend who brought me to Bottega's went to Bouchon after I left. :( He said the food nicer in Bouchon.

Ok thanks.

Alternatively can "park" at Highway 1.
