Anyone know if they allow new applicant to apply for new account in sg, the last time i wanted to apply they told me they close the application for new applicant in sg n hongkong

Opening what account in sg? which brokerage? You are referring to scb or? Suddenly many people ask question without stating clearly what they want...

Looking at Alibaba. looks good.

Yesterday BABA selldown was herd instinct.. totally unjustified since profits is good.
I will take a bigger stake soon.
BABA is seriously good. Only regret is I make a mistake with the herd and sold a small call (bearish choice...)

AAPL is terrific!
If you bought stakes just before earnings ($109), in two days, u would have gained $10 per share... $119 yday.

I am not selling my AAPL. done some reading and feel $128 is a good zone.
and if I have more money, i would hold till Apple Watch fully out.... =:p

you mentioned HK, so I am guessing you referring to interactive brokers?

If yes, then good news, you can definitely open an account now in SG. they even have a citibank account in Singapore for easy funding via your local bank fund transfer (FAST)

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/m...ers-sgd-now-available-funding-4053471-18.html

refer to this thread for IB accounts and usage.

while SCB charges by %%%. so theres no higer limit..

anything im missing?

also,

for US shares, u all buy those got give dividend 1 not shag meh? always kana tax 30% right? :(

ya, the tax cannot avoid one
if u want dividends can invest in SG or HK stocks, since no div tax

I think V is too pricey now to enter....too many people getting excited about the stock split. Might settle down a bit after split. It has been riding on a high for about 3 mths

Thing is even when I entered at $200+/-, everyone says it's expensive. Look at it's moat, it's practically either MA or V the world over. Look at it's earnings, revenues, it's impeccable.

Some stocks are expensive most of the time. You just gotta bite the bullet for a premium brand.

The split ain't really that exciting, it's the revenues, low capex, earnings, margin that is compelling.

I wonder whether it is time to finally buy BABA shares

Jack Ma Loses $1.4 Billion as Alibaba Stock Drops

(Bloomberg) -- Jack Ma’s fortune dropped $1.4 billion yesterday, the most among the world’s 400 richest people, as Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. shares posted a record slump after the company missed revenue estimates.

The decline allowed property tycoon Wang Jianlin to recapture the title of China’s richest person, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, placing him $400 million ahead of Ma, who’s worth $26.3 billion.

Ma, the 50-year-old chairman of the world’s largest collection of e-commerce websites, has seen his net worth fall $4.1 billion since Alibaba closed at a record Nov. 10.

“I think Jack Ma’s fortune has a lot of room to grow,” said Wang Weidong, an analyst at IResearch, a Shanghai-based Internet consulting firm. “He still has a lot of assets whose value haven’t been fully unlocked.”

Alibaba revenue was 26.2 billion yuan ($4.2 billion) in the third quarter, compared with the 27.6 billion-yuan average of 25 analyst estimates. Ads on mobile phones generate less money than those on desktop computers because of their smaller screens, and transactions on the Tmall platform grew at a slower pace, the Hangzhou-based company said yeseterday.

Alibaba shares fell 8.8 percent to $89.81 at the close in New York yesterday, the lowest since Oct. 20, a month after its trading debut.

Wang’s flagship property company and cinema operator sold shares in two public offerings in the past month. Wanda Cinema Line Co. has more than doubled since it started trading Jan. 22 on the Shenzhen exchange.

Volatile Market
“One’s involved in the online economy, and one’s in the offline economy, so they’re different,” said Wang. “The wealth ranking depends on changes in the market. It’s volatile.”

Ma had become China’s richest person ahead of Alibaba’s initial public offering in September 2014. He briefly overtook Hong Kong’s Li Ka-shing as Asia’s richest, riding a surge in Alibaba stock, which jumped as much as 75 percent after the stock sale.

More than half of Ma’s wealth comes from his 6.3 percent stake in Alibaba, valued at $14 billion. Almost all of the billionaire’s shares are controlled through two British Virgin Islands-based holding companies. He also holds shares in a Cayman Islands entity he controls with Joseph Tsai.

Tsai, the company’s executive vice chairman, lost $547 million yesterday, taking his net worth down to $5.8 billion.

Ma also controls almost half of Zhejiang Ant Small & Micro Financial Services Group Co., a closely held finance unit and owner of Alipay, a service similar to PayPal.

I am looking to pick up some aapl shares too. is the current price too high or can I go in to keep it for the long term (like 5-20 years if possible) because I heard apple give out dividends fairly frequently.

I queued for 109 on the day before apple announced its earning but not successful.

If you don't know that Apple distributes its dividends quarterly then you should not even be investing in equities.

I heard so too... in fact, MSFT, AAPL, LMT, JNJ, MO, BA, CVX, T, LEG, MCD, KMI, WFC, GE, CL, CLX, KO, PEP plus a thousand others does that quarterly dividend too...

If you want even more, look at O, MAIN, PSEC... MONTHLY DIVIDENDS!! =P

Basically, jokes aside, almost every US company pays out dividends on a quarterly basis. SG is an oddball.

Chevron profit tops estimates - MarketWatch

Chevron Corp. posted better-than-expected results in its December quarter, as asset sales and strength in its refining segment helped offset tumbling crude oil prices.

Chevron, the second-biggest U.S. oil company in market value behind Exxon Mobil Corp., has been working to increase its oil-and-gas production. But oil prices have plummeted in recent months amid an oversupply, just as the most ambitious drive among the world's major energy companies begins to show results. Oil prices have crashed more than 60% since last summer. U.S. crude prices dipped below $44 a barrel on Thursday, the lowest in almost six years, and closed at $44.53.

Chevron announced Friday that it would pare its capital budget by 13% this year to $35 billion to help offset the impact of low oil prices.

Still, Chevron's profits are better insulated than most oil producers because it also makes money from refining the fuel into gasoline and diesel. The lower-cost crude has helped its refinery businesses improve profit margins.

For the latest quarter, refining, marketing and chemical operations, or downstream, earnings surged to $1.52 billion from $390 million a year earlier.

Meanwhile, earnings from exploration and production, known as the upstream segment, fell to $2.67 billion from $4.85 billion a year earlier.

For the fourth quarter, Chevron said its global oil-equivalent production for the period 2.58 million barrels a day, unchanged from a year earlier.

Overall, Chevron reported earnings of $3.47 billion, or $1.85 a share, down from $4.93 billion, or $2.57 a share, a year earlier. Results included a net $570 million gain on asset sales.

Revenue fell 18% to $46.1 billion.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had forecast earnings of $1.63 a share and revenue of $30.65 billion.
