LINE has shoot past $14!
CVX shoot past $110!
Just noticed PNNT is finally turning upwards. Small position just to collect dividends.
ETP has dropped into my range, too bad I'm force to buy APL, cannot increase more exposure.
Waiting for MKL to drop big.
Hi Perisher,

Do you mind sharing how much you are vested in US stocks? You seemed to have a portfolio of many different stocks so I presume your capital must be huge. I don't think I will be able to do what you are doing if I only have about $10k to $20k. Thanks.

Yes, you can, in fact I only started with $10-20k in USD. Slowly build up.
Yes I'm overly diversified, not recommended. Just find 10-15 companies you really like to accumulate. That's diverse enough.

US counter can buy small small and many many de, don't worry unless you are not using scb. Slowly accumulate is fine, so many years of bull, dunno when bear will come, best to be cautious. In chinese we have a saying, 步步为营

You buy 1 share, nobody will know anyway except you. Haha, I remember I use to own 1 share of a dividend stock, call scb to confirm take cash, I also a bit paiseh. haha. But now don't care liao. Your $ your rules.

Drop liao drop liao, you jinx it... haha. Anyway, I didn't recommend LINE, so risky. I just saying I'm vested in LINE.

KO reports earnings beat. My big riser tonight along with AAPL covers the rest of my red sea. Amazing what a few good blue chip heavyweight can do.

Sold some LINE at $13.
Buying APL.

Also noted, BLK has been buying big on oil and energy stocks.

BlackRock Inc. nearly doubles its positions in over thirty oil-related companies.
BlackRock buys suggest upside for mid-to-mega cap oil companies, downside for smaller players.

Average total position increase: 92%
Total value increase: $35.5 billion
Largest $ value increase: XOM
Largest % position increase: RIG
Smallest $ value increase: SDRL*
Smallest % position increase: XEC

US has quite a good day, with most of the fall coming from Reits and O&G sector in my portfolio.

PFE KO BLK PEP each went up more than 2%
JNJ recovers back to its $100 range... stuck.
AAPL nearly hit 2% too.

LINE went down nearly 8%
Other than that, most less than 2%

Noob question, does anyone know how fractional shares work for US market in the event of stock split, takeover, etc, since lot size is just 1 share.

If lets say got 3 for 2 split and I have odd number of shares, do I lose the 0.5 share that will result from the split? Or am I able to sell this 0.5 share like normal?

You got those right. Either round up your shares and buy more or lose the fractional shares.

Thank for the recommendations. I'm seriously considering that, but to manage two account will be even more messy, since I can't trade local stocks on IB. Fyi, I'm also managing my family's stocks. Lots of things to manage, I'm lucky my job has a lot of waiting time to even watch stocks.

IT coder spotted. LOL

Eh, having 2 account is ok too, because 1 local and 1 non-local.
think of all the commissions u can save, and the extra revenue u will earn from collecting option premiums :)
I never look back running from SCB to IB.

AAPL is definitely meant for keeps. I regretted selling my AAPL when it was at USD250+, pre-split. Now I am hoarding over it.

min lot for US stock and trading time

Noob Q1 : what is the min lot size i can buy for US stock?
100 or can it be as low as 1?

I find most stocks are in 100s (eg apple =120). If I want to be does that means 120 * 100= 12000 as the minimum amount? If I buy 10 shares does that means I might have difficulties selling my shares in future

Q2 : what is their trading time in singapore time? If I place an order in SCB, does it mean I have to place when the trading time open?

Forgot to reply your AAPL comment, yah, I totally agree with bedokian regarding AAPL. Keep it or even better, accumulate more. It's cash asset is enough to handle even the worst of GFC.

Hi sorry, kinda new in here.

I would like to know if it is possible to buy less than 100 stocks in IB? I have opened the account but the seems like the minimum share purchase is 100?

Thanks,

For US REIT, once the trend snap, most counters will snap at one go and hard. Similar to Utilities.

You can buy in shares of 1, just be careful of brokerage fees.

Yes, every share cost $120+ currently for AAPL. Whether you will have trouble sell big amount of shares depend on liquidity, you can check that by looking at volume transacted, that would give you a rough idea of how many shares change hand daily. Unless there is a mad rush for the exit, that volume is quite a good guide.

As for q2, it's between 10.30pm-5am now, but they have daylight saving, so every 6 month they adjust the clock by 1 hour. I forgot the date.
You can trade anytime you like using SCB, except when they close for maintenance at 5am. Your order will only go through during official Trading hours in the market you choose, in this e.g. for AAPL, it's 10.30-5.

Sigh...Visa keeps dropping since the split announcement. Guessing people think it will be like MA...price dipped for MA post split...so guess people are selling what they have now...and buy back later.
