UPDATE: Now Singaporeans can just use the e-gate, no need any prior registrations
If you have used the previous MDAC system before, you can use the egate
If you have never registered for MDAC before, you can use the egate

FAQ
Can I still enter/exit JB via getting a stamp at the counter?
Yes, you don't need to use the scheme if you don't want/need to

Can I enter using egate and exit via counter with chop and vice versa?
Unless something desperate happens and you are forced to approach the customs officers for help
Best practice is for you to go in and go out by the same method
Better safe than sorry, it doesn't matter that your friends or even the customs officers tell you; one chop without its corresponding twin is always a risk some customs officer can ki siao and get you into unecessary trouble. Remember this is bolehland we are talking about

I tried the e-gate but it give "Passport Read Error" how?
Try again but this time firmly press your passport down flat on the glass panel
If still cannot, try another machine
Still cannot, try another machine, until you try at least 5 machines in different areas of the hall (left side and right side)
No joke, sometimes Malaysia own passport also have same error, they just try other machine till can

If you are going into JB, first try the machines on the extreme left side of the hall (the ones facing the left side not the ones facing front) as they seem more reliable

if queue too long try the machines on the extreme right side of the hall as they are newer, also there is an customs officer outpost in front of you so if you jump and wave enough they might see you and come to help

If you are leaving JB, you can try the machines on the extreme left side of the hall (the ones facing the left side not the ones facing front) as they seem more reliable

UPDATE: Due to Malaysian govt requirement all visitors (with certain exceptions) to fill in the digital arrival card. This thread will be renamed to reflect it's intended purpose; which is to contain info on how to register and use the e-gates

What is this?

It's a scheme under the new MACs 2.0 system that is implemented by the Malaysia government to allow Singaporeans to use the e-gates normally only used by Malaysians

How to Register
Go here: https://imigresen-online.imi.gov.my/mdac/main?registerMain

Fill up the form, up to 3 days before you intend to enter Malaysia; with your details and you are set to go

The first time you do this, you NEED to go to the specialized counter between 8am to 7pm, Mondays to Thursdays (assume this excludes public holidays)
Link to a picture of counter

Once You Are Registered
Whenever you want to go, fill up the exact same form, the exact same way, but now you (should be able to) go through the e-gates, for both going in and coming back

FAQ
What for?
Do you like to go to JB via bus but don't like queuing inside CIQ? Then this is for you

If I'm registered, can I still enter/exit JB via getting a stamp at the counter?

Will this help me if I like to take coach or enter by 2nd link?
Depends

  • If you are taking coach as part of a tour group, the coach still has to wait for everyone, so while you can clear immigration faster you still need to wait, sometimes in the hot carpark/coach waiting area instead of the aircon immigration area
  • if you are taking CW bus; it can help because you clear immigration faster so you can be at the head of the queue
Can I register at the manual counter inside the train checkpoints if I'm taking train?
No

What if I drive/take car?
There's no egate when you drive in

Enrolled previously: Every time go need to fill up the form ah?
Yes

Enrolled previously: Must fill in in advance? If yes how far in advance?
As early as up to 2 days before the date you intend to enter OR you can submit the form when you are sitting in the bus bay at Woodlands waiting for bus to JB and it will still work

My father's, neighbor's, son's, friend say once enrolled, no need fill in for subsequent trip, why u ask me every time must fill?
In the early days of the scheme, some people can get through without filling in the form for their subsequent trips, now cannot already

Enrolled previously: Now my Passport expire
Have to enroll again with new passport details sadly

I tried to register and they told me I'm ex-Malaysian so cannot
Anecdotally this is true, so...Malaysia boleh I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I try everything already and still cannot
Then you have to approach the officers, they'll sort you out

Half baked solution and implementation.
Only gives the user more questions than good user experience...

My situtation: i've travelled 2 times to Malaysia with MDAC filled.
1 via 2nd link
1 via KTM train.

Will i be able to use egate directly at CIQ now?

ya, first time going MY covid, i went straight to the auto gate :s22:
then detour to the counter....
the immigration officer gave me a brochure for the new MDACS,

i asked him the same passport-change question, he said yes, after changing passport to a new number, need to register, then go to the counter on my first entry to do the fingerprint thing
after that as per normal, register online then enter within 3 days

About this "The first time you do this, you NEED to go to the manual counter, tell the officer you want to sign up for MDAC and they will handle it from there"

Where is the manual counter? Is it the usual long queue that we take to get our passport stamp?

Or is there a special manual counter that can help the first timer MDAC?

I tried it recently when coming back from JB.

Went by Tuas - enter via normal queue but take note I didn't request to enroll anything, just normal stamp and go.

Coming back, decided to just try to fill the mdac form and use the e-gate. Somehow it worked. 😅

Was curious whether the staff just auto enroll when I entered.
