Does anyone know if the counter closure affects MDAC registration for 1st timers?
I'm not sure if I should be reading the schedule for "Arrivals" or "Departure"

Yes, MDAC submission is now fully implemented. All need to submit MDAC except for those listed in the infographic.

For the E-gate, does it have fingerprint verification in case facial recognition fails? I assume there is as our index fingerprint on both our hands are taken during the registering for the very 1st time prior to using E-gate.

I did not notice the fingerprint scanner when i go through E-gate previously. Asking as my daughter encounter facial verification fail (Passport scanning pass) when doing the verification during our last visit and she went to manual counter to get her passport chop instead.

No issue for the rest of us (3) to enter by E-gate other than my daughter.

From this video looks like have fingerprint scanner but just want to confirm so that next time if face check fail, can try fingerprint instead of going to manual counter. Thanks.

Yes there's a receptacle for finger on the right side, flush with the same color as the hardware - hard to notice.

In theory since she (& I) registered with forefingers, I presume, she has to place the same finger in the slot. Previously I've been using thumbs, but I don't place any fingers there anymore.

In my opinion MY's E-Gate Biometrics Verification is a sham, just a modicum of verification.

So best to remove spectacles (& of course mask), ensure whole face is shown in the rectangle frame shown on the display screen. For example for me when using the E-Gate after coming in from the bright sunlit corridor my specs is tinted & usually I get rejected if I don't remove my specs. When my specs is not tinted I've no issues passing thru.

Questions to you: did she try once more ie re-scan passport & re-enter E-Gate? What was the Message displayed when she was rejected, facial failed or proceed to Manual?

I would retry a few times... sometimes there are issues with the system.
As I said I've been rejected due to my tinted lens & was successful after re-scan passport & re-using E-Gate.

Suspect it is because the passport was renewed in year 2019, so maybe the photo on her passport is slightly different liao as she is 17 yr old this yr. Anyway will renew mine and her passport in 3 months time and will register for MACSv02 at manual counter again with the new updated photo of her with the passport chip.

Guess the facial recognition should come from passport chip as like u mentioned, no facial scan taken during the registration.

She’s going to be 17 this year. But passport photo is around 12 yrs old . My son is 13 this yr and he got his passport renewed last yr at age 12 along with my wife. Now no issue but I foresee same thing happening few yrs down the road as his passport expires in yr 2028. Heck maybe me and my wife may also face this issue as we gets older.

May try out the fingerprint scanning if face check fail next time before going to manual counter.

Left side e-gates facing the windows have the best lighting and consistently give me the best facial recognition speeds.

I suspect unlikely.

My face with specs was rejected because the lens were tinted after walking pass sunlit corridor to Exit.
When Entering JB my face with specs (but untinted) was successful.

Opened wide till eyeballs almost burst out lol. Joke aside, if it takes the photo from the passport chip, how come SG can detect but Malaysia cannot? Though SG one takes longer to scan.
