Maybe because i look like poor chap and stay outside D1.
. That's why didn't met any. Got once while riding at cong hoa area, 1 man with an aunty pillion behind ride beside me and keep pointing at her. Think he trying to offer her to me. I just speed up and left..
if u riding along cong hoa from airport junction towards west.. you will see alot of young girl standing at the road side alone.. distance spread around 20m 1 girl.. my friend say they offer service.. but i personally never approach them b4..

I just came back from Hanoi and Halong Bay, engaged this local travel agent - Vietnam Window Travel (do a look up on tripadvisor or facebook you can find them)who is absolutely amazing!

Just sit back and relax, they helped us to plan and brought us to explore the city like a local.

now feeling super withdrawal syndrome.

As a first timer to vietnam, maybe i should share my advice.

1. Those who want buy sim card for short trip and doesnt use a lot of data, go to the most left shop after exit arrival hall, i got my sim for 80k vnd for 6gb of data (more than enough to use for a week).

>> Ya this one is cheapest but hv not tried yet, recent trip still go for the 3rd one from left, more ex. :(

2. A lot of people will poach u the moment u exit airport to take their private vehicle. if you comfortable with it, give them a price you comfortable and tell them its inclusive of all the toll/parking/airport charges before pay them. Else, grabcar will be ok too.

In VN, uber is more common and popular, unlike here. Grab always at least 50% off normal cabs. We took uber all the time except if really near. Anyway, irony is as it is so cheap, we also give more, eg. 35k we will just give 50k etc. Too cheap also paiseh. :s22::s22:

But if dunno tieng viet, may hv issue if driver call back to enquire on exact location or hv issue finding you.

5. Make sure check out the price of food before ordering for those eatery without price listing, you might get shock of the bill.

Always ask lor...I get my viet wife to do that LOL.

6. Dont bother to shop in ben thanh unless last minute shopping before departure (must bargain if buy there), go to saigon square for clothes and cho lon for food/kitchenware/helmet and etc....

>> True but I enjoy the atmosphere in BT...though things are ex and need lots of bargaining which is tried...even my viet wife find it a chore and rather buy at fixed price outlets there. But we enjoyed having dessert or fruits juices at one of the stall there which we frequented over the years.

We also only buy snacks such as dried jackfruit and macademia nuts from one of the stall there which they already know us well and give us good stuff and price.

7. Most of the merchant dont like big notes, so make sure you have a lot of small notes.

>> Recent trip Ha Tam no 500k notes, I was given all 200K notes...LOL. I change SGD6K plus and imagine the thick stack of notes. :s22:

8. Try to be polite there and say thank you (or cam on), and dont mess up their products if you not buying.

>> Don't touch, don't mess, don't try if no intention to buy...serious then proceed, then bargain. They will scold you one.

Heading to hcm on sat! Any advice on sim cards? Also planning to go dalat and mui ne. Any advice?

Not sure if you have booked hotel in Dalat, I recommend Tulip Hotel, very near Dalat market (day and night) and the Xuan Huong Lake. The hotel is cheap and good, service excellent and room is clean. In front is the famous Lien Hoa bakery and restaurant, offering good local breakfast and breads/pao. It is famous for its Wanton noodles and other viet dishes.

I spent $2.2k for 5 pax for all day tours(family trip), stayed at MK Premier Boutique Hotel, Halong Bay Cruise, 1 free 2.5G Vietel SIM card, free airport transfer 2x and tour guide to old quarter.

They also helped my bro in law to order souvenirs to bring back home. :)

PM me if you guys need their contact.

I just went last weekend. I used grab bike whenever i have no bike. it's a breeze, unless you are at some place that hard to specify the exact pick up point. For example, at the airport i book grab bike. First one cancelled on me, probably he dont know the exact pick up location. 2nd one ding dong for more than half hour before he finally got an English speaking local to talk to me, even though i keep telling him Highlands Coffee!! Later when he pillion me out, saw him pay parking 5000d. Guess they don't really want to come in and pay parking that's why keep telling me to come outside. Anyway the fare is 14k, I gave him 20k to cover the parking fees. 20k is like, $1.20.

But then, it's really cheap. I booked one from my hotel to Chinatown, cost only 31k. The traditional motor bike taxi will cost me 70k, since it is cross district.
