in terms of visual effect = suits many of our taste and some figures are really bombastic
in terms of audio effect = if u heng heng tio the correct vietbu, every single sentence come from their mouth can melt ur heart (and ur wallet)
in terms of mentally = once u hook on, there is no turning back.... we have living example in this thread.

im going to vietnam hcmc next week, will be staying @ ben tran market. I heard that better to change currency in hcmc than in sg. Do i change at the airport? or go to the market and change there. or any shops in that area to recommend to change?

not much difference, change in singapore safer ... unless u changing few k sgd ...

The different can be huge. My first trip to hcm, i changed at nex. They gave me around 15000 only. I wasn't familiar with the rate so just went for it. Later at hcm airport, i realised the rate around 16800. That time was quite high.
Vietnam dong is not so liquid in singapore that's why.

When I first travelled tp Vietnam, I also exchange at a rate of 15,000. Was on a budget trip, hence never check beforehand.. but all my friends changed at 16xxx.. during that trip, I kept kana suan by them lo..

Ps: I just went to Chinatown see rates, it was around 15,800 nia.. fk man, I thought donald trump will crash usd..

just to check, will be going to hcm soon, from what i read from past post, does it mean it best to go there then change at the airport and best to one shot change a lot like 1k??
and do like to check how the transportation there it seem for first timer like me is taxi my best option??
can pls advice?? will be there for 4 days over the weekend any must do or food to try n eat ??

Just came back from HCMC. Changed in SG at rate of 15,600. Changed again at Ben Thanh, 16k. I would say to change a little in SG for piece of mind. Go there & change if you are intending to change more. Taxi is cheap. Rem to take hotel namecard. Vietnamese pronounciation is different from ours.

How are the expenses there as compared to Taiwan?
If visiting attractions is it better to book a tour from here?
Best period to visit?

Budget airline if good promo is about 140sgd (exclude luggages)

flight should be around 3 hours +

For food, normally people go hcm to buy
- jackfruit cracker, coffee, cashew nut with skin (about 500g for 100k)

For tour, u can go to sinh tourist ...
is around pham ngu lao area ...

half day tour to cucu tunnel is around 5sgd
day tour to mekong delta is about 10sgd
(Free lunch, free 2way transport on bus, etc)

For those who is staying at district 1 hcm ...
Some of my tips :

When taking cab:
After you have clear immigration, there are few shops selling sim card, taxi rides. Price varies from one to another ...
If you were to take vinasun or mah ling (more reputable ones), you would have to pay the counter. Then the gal would bring you out to the main road, call a cab for you. You wont need to pay the cab driver

Alternatively, normally I would just walk to the main road (there is a taxi stand there), many taxi would stop there. Remember to board only vinasun, mahling.
The rest all would be very expensive ... Friends took saigon cab for $ 45
instead of just 160k or $ 9.60 for the trip ...

When going for food at ben thanh market:
Check your bills, they would guarantee confirm charge you more ...
Happened to us for our few hcm trips so far ...

Supermarket around district 1:

- co-op supermarket (10min cab ride from ben thanh market)
- Aeon around parkson mall
- vincom center, have one supermarket, opened less than 3 years

Personally think co-op supermarket would be a better choice
bigger supermarket also
the facial products and colgates sensodyne very cheap

bought before 2x100ml sensodye free 1 cup for $ 4.20
most of their toothpaste would have free cup if u buy two ...

I travelled to hcm alone for more than 10 times. Never had any issues. But then, don't be flashy with your valuables. And when you use mobile phones, stay away from the road. Many locals and tourists had their phones snatched by motor bikes robbers.
