Hi, I'm planning a 6 days trip to Hanoi in late Dec. Here is my draft itinerary.
Day 1: arrive Hanoi late morning. walk around Hanoi in day, night train to Sapa
Day 2: Sapa
Day 3: fansipan, Sapa. Then night train back to Hanoi
Day 4: halong Bay overnight cruise
Day 5:halong Bay, Hanoi city
Day 6:Hanoi
Day 7: late morning back to sg.

Is this itinerary too rushed? Am I spending too much time touring hanoi city? If yes, should I spend one more day in Sapa or halong Bay? Thanks

I feel that your itinerary is well balanced. Maybe Fansipan on day 2 instead of day 3 depending on whether you are hiking or just taking cable car. 2D1N is ideal to experience Halong Bay. Don't go for the cheapest cruises though. Go for at least a 4 star one with good reviews. They are not too expensive.

Usually only for tour operators, somehow they like to quote usd. Deposit is charged in usd but balance can pay in vnd if you prefer.

remember that charging in USD is illegal in Vietnam, if you do encounter so, please kindly report them to the police because that is essentially illegal

quite common, especially higher end places such as bar or restaurants, they would show prices in usd and vnd ... best to pay in vnd ...

Anyone taken the Green Bus from Hanoi to Sapa b4? Any review?

They provide transport from Airport to Sapa in the afternn at 2pm, i dun have to travel to old quarter and wait for the 10pm transport.

Heard Sapa Express is not bad but they only have morning and night timings.

Pay in local currency VND

most people would stay d1 ...
d1 3* hotels usually 30+ to 70+ above
4* hotels usually 70+ above ...

some of the better 3* in my opinion:
lan lan1, lan lan2, elios, vien dong, le duy, blue diamond, alagon
based on my research and stay in some of their hotels

if u r very particular with the spread of breakfast, should go tripadvisor see their pic. else some hotels only have 5 dish type, like mixed rice ...
some have better breakfast buffet spread ...

At least give us more details like what are your requirements for a cheap hotel...

There are extremely cheap hotels near Van Hanh mall whereby you only pay $5-10/night
