Don't forget, telcos also have to phase out and replace existing hardware. It's not just a matter of a firmware upgrade to "enable 5G".

If you have to buy a new base station/cell to replace the older ones anyway, would you buy a 5G one with ROI spread out over a longer time, or buy an older-spec 4G+5G (NSA) one that has a limited lifespan that you eventually still have to replace with a 5G/6G model?

Which would be the more sensible thing to do?
currently SingTel is using the same towers and cells for 5G NSA and SA. I did some research and found this is technically possible. Using the same cells, premium SingTel postpaid users can use SA connectivity, while MVNO and prepaid uses NSA.
So if SingTel decides to maintain the situation and differentiate premium users and non-premium (us), they can still do so... NSA and SA can co-exist

as shown, same cell can be used for both NSA and SA. Thus Singtel has the option to decide who can use their premium service

Except you forget IMDA's stipulated/mandated requirements for telcos. Before they are allowed to deploy NSA equipment, they need to meet 95% 5G SA. And are expected to grow that to >99% over the next few years.

Makes no financial sense to reverse position if they have already covered 95% of the island with SA, and are required to grow it to full islandwide coverage within the next few years.

nobody forgets anything. Looks like you have not understood the tech details.

NSA and SA can co-exist, share the same cells, at the same time. When Singtel build a new SA cell, it is also used for NSA. So when Singtel is out there and building new cells to meet 99% SA requirements, all these cells are also used for 99% NSA coverage, at no extra hardware cost.
This is indeed the current situation. There is never "reverse position".

They don't need to meet 95% 5G SA before deploying NSA, so they can just spam NSA networks now to make sure everyone sees "5G" on their phones islandwide. Then when the 95% SA deadline comes after 5 years, just ask IMDA for more time. What can IMDA do to Singtel?

figure: NSA and SA runs concurrently, using same towers and cells.

They do run on the same hardware. Whether MNOs want to enable or disable NSA, just update software / firmware

The free neighbour roaming for vibe is coming to an end soon since I'll be hitting 12 months with vivifi. Is it worth the effort to port out then port in again later on to get the same benefits for another 12 months? Anyone knows whether there is a minimum period in between?

Just email them about it and ask politely if it can be extended ;)

Sent an email. Response was great. Upgraded to 2 GB roaming for 12 months.

The diagram actually states two sites and two cores are present. It doesn't show run site doing dual service (because eliminating the 4G site eliminates the control/signalling plane for 5G NSA, which is still needed).

If you remove the 4G site, then there is no control plane for 5G NSA. So two sites, and 2 cores are still expected in order to provide hybrid services.

Signed up for Vivifi some time back. First 3 months of free 5G was great. After that, got downgraded to 4G service and saw pretty bad coverage. In the EWL tunnels on my daily commute, I can only get 3G most of the time, even during off peak travel. Do you guys have the same issue? I’m using iPhone 14 Pro.

this is due to singtel coverage
getting coverage also doesn't guarantee bandwidth since they are moving towards m1 route

Speed getting slower at my usual spot, watch video lagging.

Is this an issue with vivifi or Singtel?

Anyone got good deal for change of plan from vivifi customer service? I'm currently on 19.9 Vibe 5G with 1GB roaming want to see what's the best deal. I'm sticking with 5G though.

Was looking at Giga $18.33 for 300GB with 5G and 2GB roaming, went to Giga thread and noticed many people complain the 5G is SA only hence very limited connectivity.
