I have HSBC Hong Kong account with multi currency including CNY. It works similar to a Mainland Chinese account. I can use Alipay and Wechat wallet online paying CNY.
I doubt you can link your HK Bank Debit card RMB account to your WeChat, you can only link your HK bank Credit Card to WeChat, or use HK version WeChat link HK Bank account with HK dollar. Because outside China RMB is called off shore CNY, not Mainland CNY,they cannot be freely exchanged.
Your HK Bank Unoinpay Debit Card is nothing special or have any advantages for consumption in China.

Do you mean

1 - You can top up your Alipay and Wechat Pay wallets using your HSBC card?

or

2 - You can use Alipay and Wechat Pay with HSBC tied to your payment apps?
For this, any debit/credit card will do. So nothing special with your HSBC card for this option.

You'll have to find businesses that accept your HSBC HK Debit card.

Most places only accept China issued cards aka UnionPay.
Many Hong Kong people goes to China to shop. So I believe they all using HK debit card or credit card.

I think I can do both. However, I didn;t want to try because if I top up, I can withdraw back to my HSBC HK account.

For point 2, I can exchange the FX in advance if the rate is good and keep in the RMB account.
The rate for HSBC HK is far better than DBS, OCBC and even HSBC Singapore.

And so?

Most people use Wise, Revolut and/or YouTrip cos the currency exchange rates are 'good enough'. No hassle for maintaining a bank account. And these are multi-currencies cards.

You GPGT your HSBC HK exchange rate.

Later I'll brave the heat, go to the store and use my Alipay tied to my YouTrip card, buy something and GPGT YouTrip exchange rate.

Yes. I have wise as well. I did a compare in the rate and apparently HSBC HK rate is better than Wise. Plus the debit card has 0.4% cashback.

I tested Alipay HK app and I can top up HKD and pay for my HK Sim card. Since HK is part of China, it should be able to for Alipay.

This is the pay to Merchant. You no need to open HK HSBC Bank to do that.
In SG, You can just open a account in BOC and do that, BOC SG also has Dual Currency Credit Card and Debit Card.

I use it for other purpose as well. So, HSBC HK is a better choice for me.

u can ask frd give u hongbao see u can rx or not n u know wat we r saying

thats why another bro mention "how u get money in ewallet is another thing"

imo wechat is stricter than alipay

An interesting point on WeChat wallet is that in the past I could not accept hongbao and any 补贴from merchants that would deposit into the WeChat wallet. In early July (this is before I opened my mainland bank accounts so there were only the usual Wise and other intl CC tied to my WeChat), a merchant sent me a packet for RMB120 being a rebate for a 618 promotion. I did manage to receive it into my wallet AND subsequently successfully used it for a purchase on Xiaohongshu for RMB115.

I don’t know if this experience is part of the drive to make it easier for foreigners but I did manage to receive into my wallet and use the credit in it.
