Just when I thought my PC speakers uplorried today too, reversed the connection for the aux cable and it's working again.

Been using my Swanspeakers M50W since 10+ years ago and still going strong!

ELAC are passive speaker meaning it is like this.

There's no way to connect the speaker directly to PC without a amp.
It depend what your usage is if for gaming or movies, 2.1 will be better.
2.0 is more for clarity and mids suitable for music and recording.

Example will be Edifier R1280DBs which I used to own before.
However as it lack sub which is why I change to Logitech Z407.
Example in games/movies, the "boom" effect only 2.1 can create such effect.

So depend what type of usage you are looking at.
Home theater will be on another level but it depends what type of amp
you buy.

As no matter how good the speaker is like ELAC, you must pair with a decent amp.

With that cost, the sound enters your body through your toes too i assume

Every inch of your body including the places where the sun doesn’t shine
If you have an audiophile hobby and spare cash then go ahead.
Otherwise, if you don’t appreciate hi-fi save your money.

PC -> Logitech Z407
TV -> Pioneer Home Theatre 5.1 Setup

For my Home theater which uses a AVR it have network feature.
So from PC can stream music to it no need to connect directly to it.
The speaker I use is Pioneer Andrew jones speaker, the speaker engineer
went to ELAC after leaving Pioneer.

Yes don't buy, expensive is one thing.
The bass is horribly off, I won't forget try to play movie on it.
The bass just distort very badly so I end up return it back to the shop.

Hmm I suppose any decently reviewed amp on amazon should do it.

I narrow down for you:
- Klipsch promedia (Unknown whether still can buy or not.)
- Elac (Skip as you need a decent amp for it)
- Edifier R1280DBs
- Audioengine this one depends on your budget.
In my opinion the cheaper A1 sound is tiny since the speaker size is small.
If you want bigger and louder sound consider the bigger model like A5+ but
be prepare to spend at least around $700

Best to go down to Challenger Bugis to test the Edifier and Klipsch.
Audioengine only place can test is Stereo.
Skip the ELAC as if you cheap out on the amp it won't sound nice.

The rest of the speaker brand have build in amp inside the speaker so
you don't need a amp to drive it.

Years back, first listening to the song "Hotel California" with a 2.1 ..... the sub was almost non existent and i was checking if it was even powered "ON", then when it suddenly kicks in, it elevates the whole listening experience to a no mans land, simply breathe taking with the solo hand drums beat and guitar strumming away.

True as the sub provide the low frequency like bass etc.
2.0 wise won't be able to produce low frequency like a subwoofer.

Hifi or being an audiophile is an expensive hobby, especially in SG where the market is so small & so marked up;

Must have a supportive wife.

I gave up > 10 years ago. Nowadays I listen to Internet radio or play mp3 files.

Real bass from a proper subwoofer not noisy, its those mass market 2.1 system that mash up the sounds.
