im using a galaxy nexus, running on jelly beans 4.2.1.
i just realised that I'm unable to backup conversations on my whatsapp (2.9.378). Each time i try to backup, the last backup date remains never, and there is no backup file available in my whatsapp folder. need to do the backup because im transferring the conversations to another android phone.
anyone faced this problem before?
pls help!!

Getting frustrated with Whatsapp that is Single phone bounded and must be radio enable (3G /LTE..or sort)

I have multiple phones, whenever travel overseas..may just use another phone with another phone no.. Newer SW only allowed single copy of Whatsapp to be associated with single active phone..

as long as you switch phone..it will ask you to revalidate the phone no..while overseas..you may not even want to receive SMS from Singapore for the validation..

What save me is Google Talk..luckily most friends are on Android platform that i could just send chat over Talk .

Any other better chat program available..

Most rely on phone number registration.

Surprisingly, one of the better solution is Facebook messenger (which most people have accounts to). Kik is decent, but requires different account for each device.

Look like I have to use multiple apps to cover all corners.

Unfortunately I still have many anti social, anti data centric friends..that only use SMS..somemore got to use GLOBAL SMS..

the trick is not to switch phone, that's even when you are overseas. if you insert an overseas sim on that same phone, Whatsapps will not re-validate your account again. since it is the same phone.

i understand for some reasons you may need your SG line remains contactable when you are overseas, just get a cheapo 2G phone for that purpose (calls and SMS).

For me, I just use a simple solution. Get a data sim, put in my N7 to act as wifi hotspot.

My phone, my tablet, my wife's/colleague's phones all use their own phone number for roaming, all use their same whatsapp, but still connected via data. Similarly any 3g/lte wifi hotspot device will work the same (but I doubt none of them will last as long as a tablet acting as a hotspot). It is the best solution for u, albeit at a cost.

I understand this approach ,which I usually swap in Overseas SIM on my phone and continue to use whatsapp without revalidation .

Problem come if you have an old phone with whatsapp installed(with same phone login id) previously and you start to use it while they other phone is active.

In the older Whatasapp release. you just need to kill the app on one phone..then whatsapp will be happy to continue without prompting you to revalidate..but not so for the new release..

i have 3 working android phones and i was in the same shoe like you before. i eventually uninstalled the app from my 2 older phones.

I think the chat history can be ported over from phone to phone.

I am really tired of my chui cmi HTC Sensation liaoz. I am going to factory reset it and hope it can tahan until Xperia Z comes in.

I like to check on whatsapp. If I am to factory reset my HTC Sensation now, is there any way I can restore all the message in my whatsapp?
I know sms can be backup and restored with apps.

Backup the whole whatsapp folder to PC, after reset, copy the folder back to the same location where you did the backup, install whatsapp, on its first run , it will prompt to restore all, just accept it, all your conversations threads will be restored

I guess this is the appropriate thread to ask:

Is there anyway to disable the whatsapp incoming msg notification on the notification bar at the top of the phone?
I can disable popups and sound notification from whatsapp settings itself but just not able to disable the silent notification coming into the notification bar. It's getting irritating since for me, whatsapp is a non-urgent social device......anything urgent to contact me, call my phone number.

Is it a phone specific problem or android whatsapp problem? When I was on fruit phone, it allows me to disable all form of notification.

I'm using Xperia V 4.0.4. Thanks!

Nope, it's not an option to disable it in the app itself, though I kinda understand why it's not an option. It's a messaging app for fast and prompt messaging, and if there's no visible prompts why is it installed in the first place? :)

That being said, if you are on Android 4.1 or 4.2 (which I don't think is available on ur model yet), they can be blocked manually.

So in summary, no. :(
