Nope, it's not an option to disable it in the app itself, though I kinda understand why it's not an option. It's a messaging app for fast and prompt messaging, and if there's no visible prompts why is it installed in the first place? :)

That being said, if you are on Android 4.1 or 4.2 (which I don't think is available on ur model yet), they can be blocked manually.

So in summary, no. :(

The only reason I have it installed is because of free group chats for discussion purpose as well as free sending of multimedia files/pics without incurring MMS/SMS count/charges.

Guess I have to wait till I upgrade to the JB update announced recently for my phone.:(

hey, wait a minute......if I move the app to the SD card.....will it solve my problem since background process cannot be running all the time for apps on SD cards.

Me too... :(
But its not always lah.

Sometimes msg comes in, but it doesn't show any notification/vibration/ring till I unlock my phone and launch the app. The msg could be like few hrs earlier, not unknown to me...
I am guessing is it because I use atk kill apps too xiong? :p

Apparently when a phone number has been registered on an idevice, this license becomes permanent.

I bought my copy of whatsapp when using 4s and now am using that number on an iNo One and my license is permanent.

I put my micro sim into an iphone. Register it, load whatsapp and put it back into my note2.

Had to reinstall because initialising stage took way too long. When I finally register it back, it extended by a mth.

How is it possible to get the extension for a decade?

Actually just reinstall on a iPhone, then when it asks for a number, just use your number, no need to swap sim cards.

Do you need to change a new itunes account?

Assuming i borrow a iphone from my friend, uninstall whatspp and reinstall with my hp number for verification. How am I to purchase it when my friend has already purchase whatsapp previously?

Er... I don't understand this part. Pls be patient if I sound like a total noob asking silly questions.

I have done the following:-

1. Uninstalled Whatsapp on my friend's iphone.
2. Downloaded and reinstalled Whatsapp (no purchase required)
3. I used my own HP number for verification.
4. Received a verification code on my hp
5. I activated Whatsapp on iphone using the verification code

After this, i can receive my whatsapp msg on the iphone.

What is the next step I should do to purchase whatsapp on itunes? I just want to make a one time payment on itunes for whatsapp to use on my own hp number. Did I miss anything?

Ur friend already purchased whatsapp from the store. So any number registered on it will be considered a paid "forever" account.
