thanks! what do you think of their shirts and zara's?
Their shirts are good and imho, better than Zara. I used to buy both, but nowadays if I have to buy RTW, I would buy BB blue label or perfect shirt. I am btw sizes unfortunately, so I tailor more now.

Hey @darthsid11111, saw you mentioned this and wondering if you can help me out.

Requirements:
- Would like to tailor business suit and pants
- Needs to be ready in 5-6 weeks
- Budget: < $1000 per suit and pants combination

Questions:
- I sweat excessively, therefore need material that can keep my pants cool. Also, when I tailored at Sze Sze previously, their pants came in a material that was very prickly to my skin (as if there were many small needles poking me). Are there any good materials I should explore?
- Which tailor would you recommend me to explore?

Thank you!
Hello!

I can't help you as I haven't been buying clothes as my wardrobe is full with a big backlog of NWT clothes.

Sub 1k used to be a pretty ok low-end budget but my sensing is that with inflation everything's gotten a lot more expensive.

The material you got from Sze Sze is likely mixed wool. The "prickly" feeling is probably an indicator of wool content, as opposed to polyester which is cheap and feels smooth to touch.

I wish you all the best in finding finding right tailor. You may have better success now that the charlatan has been banned lol.

Avoid Benjamin Barker like the plague. It's really terrible and cheap rubbish.

Zara in comparison has decent quality fabrics and their items are typically on trend. Inditex is a massive operation and the sort of economies of scale they can achieve can't be matched by BB. Dollar for dollar Zara will offer better value.

Material prickly is usually due to mohair or high micron wool, like tweed, or non Merino wool, or woolen wool ( short fiber) …..the strange thing is that it seems an afterthought? I thought you would touch and feel to select the fabric at Sze Sze instead of being surprised that the tailor selected this fabric for you.

also, if the part on sweating easily was communicated to tailor, then tailor shouldn’t have recommended or used a prickly wool polyester blend fabric. Part of the service is to give fabric consultation to customers. Polyester is not breathable. That wool part seems like cheap wool, for the sake of having some wool in the fabric.

nowadays brands like Benjamin barker use wool rayon blend that is smooth to touch and more breathable than wool polyester for trousers.

Thank you ser!

But would you mind recommending me material that I can go for that is both breathable and doesn't have the prickly feeling?

To address the prickly feeling you need to consider 100% natural materials such as wool and cotton but not linen. For breathability forgo lining as much as possible. Lastly check the weave of tue fabric by holding it up to the light. The denser the weave (light doesn't shine through) the less breathable it is.

All the best!

Thank you!
For formal suits, you can check out some of the Italian worsted wool bunches as those have a rather silky hand-feel and is smooth to the touch. Some that comes to mind are the entry level VBC/Guabello options. However, these are all 100% wools and it may not fit into your budget of >$1000... but no harm asking!

The lining inside the pants makes it feel smooth against your skin. This can be important if you're using a polyester-wool fabric, which can be quite prickly. Having a lining indeed lowers the breathability, but for a lot of people, the advantage of a smoother touch outweighs the slight drop in ventilation. This remains a very subjective issue and you will probably only know which is best for you after experiencing both.

Hi, do you have an idea of your budget or what you want in mind? Another important factor would be how much time you have before your wedding or pre-wedding shoot.

I'm sure you'll be able to visit them and ask for samples of their work for other clients before you commit to a suit. Might also be a good idea to go somewhere like suit supply to get a feel for the styles you like and to have a point of comparison for quality or fabrics.

Would be best to figure out a budget you are comfortable with and explore your options accordingly. You'll definitely be able to find suggestions and pictures from many of the past threads for tailors catered to different budgets, although you may have to add 20% or more to the prices previously shared for current prices.

Nowadays local tailors do trunkshows overseas in Australia, bring Korean tailors, Ring Jacket, European tailors to do trunkshows locally and with high inflation, prices have really increased by 20%.

Anyone knows what happened to iris tailor? Used to make with them but recently 2 visits to them always end up with a closed door. Calls and fb all not responding. Looking to tailor pants. Any recommendations within this price point?

Thank you for your reply mate!

I made an appointment with them and other tailors mentioned previously and went in to have a look at the fabrics and prices of each. But, in the end i chose them.

Pricing aside, the reason why I chose Modella is the family-like feeling and them having their own tailor. That's what i wanted in a tailor, showing its a genuine tailor and not just a salesman (learnt from my research, feel free to correct me if im wrong ya).

My order:
I spent about 1.4k for a 2-piece + special lining, 2 custom shirts, an additional trouser for the suit, and 2 trousers for my groomsmen, using their inhouse fabric brand.

Overall, i feel money is well spent and clothes will be ready before Christmas, perfectly matching my timeline.

Hope it turns out well. I'm sure many here would love to see pictures from the fittings and when you take delivery of the suit!

Same thing i had asked actually. The prices are from $XXX, not fixed, as there are different fabric grade.

Construction:
i went for half canvassed.

Fabric:
My suit, i went for sebastiano veronese.
Groomsmen, in house brand as wanted a particular color.

I didn't go for those 100% Wool or expensive branded ones like H&S, VBC etc. They showed me but, being honest, i cannot afford them. Those are 1 suit over 1k+. Maybe in future when more $$ not now hahah.

Cashmere suit:
Cashmere suit so expensive?? I saw online (when looking) from another shop at $499 tho. Luckily i never go there.

Egyptian Cotton Shirt:
Other Tailors i went to quoted around the same price as them, only one quoted for $165/shirt.

You're a master member so please correct me if im wrong Sir, I believe their prices are lower as they have their own tailor, so cost is just fabric i guess?
Having their own tailor (if true), equates to having in-house capability. This should make them more expensive and not cheaper. The costs involved in setting up for in-house capability (hiring, salaries, workroom space rental etc.) far outweighs utilising a third-party/free-lance manufacturer.

I'd advise you to just go with the flow and don't sweat the small details. You pay for what you get and everyone needs to start somewhere! If your lifestyle doesn't require you to wear suits on a regular basis, there's no point in overextending yourself.

I feel you made a very sound decision by sticking to your budget. It's your first suit and you won't know what you don't know. If and when you become more interested in the tailoring game, you'd naturally research more and gain more experience by paying your due 'school fees'.

Thanks Allen for your reply!

I think they do have their own tailor (owner mentioned also) as he was the one who gave me a first fitting to see my body shape and to show me the length styles etc. Salary and their cost wise, im not sure on that.

Yep, I'm happy with this tailor's service so far, just left with the clothes fit.

You're right, my lifestyle doesn't really need me to wear suits. Mostly its polo/shirt and jeans/pants for work.

I do understand what you mean about the tailoring game. To me, I'm not into too much branded clothing/fabrics as i know they may get stained etc. So i go for something that i can just wear without worries.

Appreciate your understanding on my budget 🙏
