$5 an HR is 2001 pay?

better than $3.50 right? :s13::s13:

$5 at least can cover 1 meal during working hours. there will always be debate if that 1 hour of work equates to $5.

dishwasher or cleaning table aunties stand and move around. is the $5 reasonable vs a security guy who is paid the same to sit at the guardroom and eye power and occasional patrolling around the premise.

In what way? If we have minimum wages, we can still attract talents because they won’t be rejecting the job due to low pay anymore

Everyone's work stays the same quality, cos boss just pay minimum. Work better and be more innovative for what?

Top companies are profiting a lot. Being private individuals, they seek to minimize cost and maximize profit.

So to get them to pay better is impossible.

With the ability to employ foreigners, the wages can never raise despite local supply of labour is low. This means that the companies actually have an endless supply of labour... hence the depressed wages

why not? if u see the top companies profits, they can donate for the cause

We basically already have a minimum wage system if you look at it.

The issue is with effective n efficiency or rather productivity. Our numbers are pretty low.

You are making the assumptions that people get paid according to their work.

You mean right now in sg, people are paying based on their work performance ? Like McDonald’s staff are paid15$ an hour if he is hardworking?

Everyone get paid the same. Only those with good performances are awarded with recognition like promotion and awards. With or without minimum wages, it is the same

No. You lose competitiveness.

yes, as a business owner, you lose competitiveness. manpower cost cant reduce further. other countries with no min wage will win hands down.

someone has to lose in order for the majority to benefit.

Still a better model than giving people a minimum wage. Singaporeans and the foreigners that come do not have the basic work ethics of a first world country. You have to reward innovation and competence.

The taxation taken by government aren’t given back to the citizens....

If u use that money to raise the citizens’ salary instead, they will in turn spend it to increase their quality of life, spend more which circles around the economy again, and reduce dependency on government.

no. u force them to pay heavy taxations.

Countries like Japan can give minimum wage, why? Because the nation as a whole has a common culture of basic pride in their work.

Watch Singaporeans or foreign workers keng and do the bare minimum if minimum wages are implemented.:vijayadmin:

The problem is not with the minimum wage. The problem is with the middle class and elites living in excessive luxury. SME boss every CNY need to change car, elites need to have multiple cars, yachts and party homes. The obscene amount they earn for taichi-ing the work to the "exploited" foreign workers is the issue.

The key thing is we are right now not awarding innovation and competency ! What makes you think we are doing so right now?

That’s why nobody want to do these jobs.

We keep relying on cheap labor. We are no different from a developing country.
