tip for fellow bros here. picked up a bottle of wolf blass president selection cabernet sauvignon 2012 from cold storage. its a special cny edition so its 1 litre and was 39 dollars so works out to about 29 dollars for regular 750ml bottle.

anyway for a sub 30 dollar bottle ihave to say its really excellent value and can easily match stuff double the price. good mid weight, length and well balanced, very typical auz cab flavours. with a few years in the bottle its drinking well now and has even some potential to keep for around 3-5 years.

am going back later today to kop as many bottles as i can haha.
Thanks for the recommendation. Have seen it in quite a few Cold Storage. Too bad I usually drink alone. These 1Ls are too much for me.

It's easy. First night drink 250 ml pour the rest into a 750ml bottle. Second and third night drink down to 250ml our the rest into a half bottle. Like this can easily last one week. Also two bottles is 68 so 34for one bottle works out even cheaper

Recommadation

Hi, I am no wine specialist but do you guys have any recommendation on red wines? something for me to drink to help me with my sleep.

Looking at prices somewhere around 20 - 30 dollars per bottle? Any good recommendation?

everyone's taste is different. it may taste good to me but not nice to you.
you can try to get Brown Brothers from the supermarkets. Its around this price range. Some might hit $40.
Cloudy Bay and Oyster Bay has nice wine too.

Yeah, wine is very subjective.

I would suggest just going to the supermarket and buy those that are on offers, or try those half bottles to see if you like them. Some Cold Storage even have automated wine dispenser's on weekend for free tastings. Check them out.

recent i conducted a blind tasting with my meetup group and found that Chateau Seguineau (Cold Storage $30) was quite comparable with other bordeaux $70 wines. However the only weakness was that the intensity and fruits died after 30mins. It was like drinking grape juice after that. Well its a $30 wine so cant expect too much.

Could you also share which vintage was this Chateau Seguineau from?

Just returned from Perth / Margaret River as part of holiday with my family. Visited lots of wineries at margaret river and had the opportunity to do lots of tasting to my content. Most of the tasting are free and only AUD 5-6 if you drink a expensive offering. The best part of the tasting experience is that you start from the basic to the most exquisite wines for both red and white. You typically do 2-3 each of reds and whites. Most of time you will be able to discern the increase in quality and complexity but there will be an odd one or two where the cheaper ones are better drinking to your palate. Honestly the under AUD 50 ones are already excellent wines.

I bought a dozen of mixed chardonnay, carbenet sauvignon blends, semillion sauvignon blanc and malbecs. Tip here is to accumulate AUD 300 or more in a single receipt and get 23% approx refund at the airport for tourist refund. This applies even you buy at the liquor stores too which could be cheaper if they have sales. Pls note that duty free at Perth Airport is not cheaper. They don't give you full benefit of the 23%.

Anyway the vineyards I visited are as follows:

Brookland Valley
Cullen Wines*
Leeuwin Estate*
Vasse Felix
Voyager Estate*
Woodlands*
Pierro*
Xanadu
House of Cards
Windows Estate

Those with * means I bought their wines.

I have a few more wineyards on my list to go but time is too short and I need to cater to my kids activities too. But there is always another trip if tickets are cheap and FX rates are good.

Hey hey.... i totally feel you... wanna start but dunno where to begin. do you prefer red or white? I'm not some pro sommelier, just drink to enjoy those fine wine kind of person. I would always advice those that wanna start, start of with moscato wine or those rose wine... its not really in league with those full flavor red/white but its still a start... if u wanna take a step up u can try red (pinot noir) but a good pinot noir is seasonal... or white (sauvignon blanc)
You can totally pair it with sweet fruits like grapes or strawberries to balance the acidity of the wine :)
Cheers and enjoy :)

You can also try aged wines between 1982-1990 as the tannins will be integrated however the prices are a little on the high side.

Hi I just got a wine chiller Kadeka KSJ115EW which is free from UOB promo. I realise it doesn't have a digital temp reading.

Any idea where and what kind of digital temp device i can get ?

Is this model a compressor vs thermo electric ?
