just picked up some wine over the past weekend:

2003 Jasper Hill Georgia's Paddock Shiraz - this one is a stunning aussie shiraz that can age very very well

2001 Basedow Semillon - semillon is a white wine varietal that has a knack for being able to age well. If you have the opportunity, try to get your hands on a semillon from Tyrrell's, a top producer in Hunter Valley, a place where semillons really shine.

not really, if its well made the flavours are rather nice and unique. it's a dry wine that sometimes may be a little sharp and harsh in its youth but the good quality ones can age rather gracefully.

1 year ago i drank the 2005 Tyrrell's Semillon "Stevens Vineyard", very nice for a 5 year old white wine and could still develop some more.

a lot of white wines from bordeaux (bordeaux blanc)are made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon and you can find a lot of entry level whites from australia that are a Sem/SB blend as well; but it's not very common to find semillon as a 100% dry wine.

Although in Sauternes, a lot of the good sweet wines are made from semillon grapes (or at least a majority of the blend is semillon)

just got back from the distributor "Water & Wine" tasting of 2 good american producers at this new atas restaurant in Tanjong Pagar called Keystone. the 2 producers were Ojai and Au Bon Climat. We tasted their chardonnay and pinot noirs; althogether 8 wines. Very worth the money to taste.

there was an option to stay for their 5 course wine pairing dinner at a $105 price tag. in all fairness, for a restaurant of that caliber, it is a reasonable price but definitely not within my budget haha.

those who went down to the Local Nose Try 'n' Buy fair at Tanglin mall, how was it?

eating jap dinner at Fukuichi @ Triple One Somerset. Called yesterday to make reservations and found out their corkage is only $10 !!!!!!

A classic pairing of sushi is with riesling or champagne :)

but i don't have any riesling on hand to spare, and champagne is too expensive, i will get a sparkling wine from the Limoux region from 1855 Bottle Shop downstairs. Limoux was the first region in France and the world to discover sparkling wines, even before Champagne and they are a terrific value alternative to the often pricey champagne

Thanks for the heads up about Fukuichi. Have heard good things about the place, there was even a groupon-type discount previously, but been eating too much extravagant food of late that I had to give it a pass.
How was the food?

It's really ideal that there are some decent food places at Triple One with decent/no corkage and a lovely wine store at 1855 round the corner to boot. Killer combination for the wine lover.

Am interested to go for the Local Nose wine fair but dunno if I can squeeze out the time this weekend. Have always enjoyed their wine recommendations. Popped by Le Vigne at Henry Park recently to get a recommended Shiraz blend there and the guy there, Lewis, was really nice and friendly. The shop reminds me of the quaint wine shops in Europe, but it may nostalgia playing a part; I used to frequent that row of shops in my primary school days, when they had a Milano's (90 cents garlic bread), Word Shop (buy X-Men comics) and provision shop for my fix of 10 cent bubble gum, panini sticker collection and hazelnut bar ice cream haha... sorry for going OT, never could resist a walk down memory lane :p

Btw just received a mailer from Straits Wine, there's a wine tasting coming Wednesday evening for a Rioja producer - Marques De Murrieta - at UE Square. Anyone keen? I'm curious, since ikileo has constantly been extolling the virtues of Spanish wines :p

haha...never say hi ;) went there to watch movie.

as for the spanish tasting, will have to check my schedule. but for those who can i would highly recommend tasting that producer. especially if you get to taste their Reserva Especial Ygay. Very delicate and elegant wine made from their native and classic tempranillo grapes. Classic Rioja style: medium bodied, good acid, rich red fruit, elegant, ageworthy.

Maybe cos it's not exactly very convenient to walk to, and closes at 6.30pm... collection, while not the biggest is decent but I like the feel of the place. The blend is Shiraz, Grenache and Tempranillo; I also like the label design of this wine, but haven't tried it yet. You get a slight discount when paying by cash. Do drop by and take a look!

Now that the month of September is upon us, we should start planning for our Sept wine meetup!

Previously was Italian right? So let's head over to Buono (free corkage still, i hope) for dinner and italian wines.

I hope some new people can join as well!

So same game plan, bring along an italian wine between $30 - $60 (lets increase the cap!) it can be a red, white, rose, sparkling, dessert!

We can only do this when i finish my reservist on the 23rd sept thought :(

@yehosaphat: I still have your wine, haha! We should meet up this weekend or next weekend when i book out!
