Calling the HWZ Wine Forumites, now it's time to plan for the Nov Wine Outing again.

Let me know how many of you are keen. I can suggest a casual dining place like Bistro One Zero Three along Pasir Panjang road. Corkage is $5. I've eaten there twice before and it's quite nice.

If you have other themes you'd like to suggest let me know. Here are some possible options:

- Country specific
- Varietal/blend specific
- Colour specific
- Wines you think will impress
- Regions you've never tried before

let me know so i can get started in the organization.

Same reason as Reign. Keen but will be available end Nov.

Just signed up for the Ch Musar tasting and so far there are only 3 ppl (including me) signed up .... Hopefully got more ppl signing next week.
Tomorrow's tasting is cancelled because not enough participants.

Did you ever buy anything from him? You can definitely find a bottle of your birth year from him but usually is a Bordeaux blend. Burgundy will be more ex.

one before, a while ago when i was still on BDX. but haven't bought in a while since i was country hopping.

Thanks for the detailed analysis ikileo. Interesting developments, hopefully we will reach a mature wine scene soon, better for everyone..

hkm520240, ya really good to know these type of people. Look at wall of labels, so nice to have something like that to preserve your memory of the wine.

Was quite interested for the Brunello tasting tomorrow, but the price put me off a bit. Would be good if they can refund the tasting fees upon purchase of the bottles on show. Am curious about the Musar, though I dunno whether I'll like it! Why don't we have a forum get-together there? Never done a vertical tasting before.

Btw out of curiosity just bought a Turkish wine from NTUC, a Syrah. Hopefully it won't be too bad!

Thanks for sharing hkm! Wonderful pictures.

Didn't know big eater doesn't charge corkage. Next time can buy some wine to go along with crabs. Is the wine shop along that stretch of shop houses?

@ looiwte: I think the fees charged for Brunello tasting is fair. How I determine whether the fees is fair is by download their tasting price list and sum up the total values of the wines on tasting. Then I divide by 17 (Assume 1 bottle can share among 17ppl @ ~40ml per glass). This is not those wines tasting with winemaker or representative whereby the wines on tasting normally sponsored by winery.

I tried some Turkish wines before but it wasn't impressive. Hopefully you got different experience from mine.

@ Do_As_Infinity: I can't be 100% sure because I'm not the person foot the bill. But I did read from a blogger who share his BYO wines experience at big eater. You can check it out

http://spiceinwine.blogspot.com/2011/04/byo-wines-to-big-eater-at-jln-pari.html

Yes the wine shop is on the same strecth of shop houses and very easy to spot.

hkm520240: Yeah, seems pretty reasonable to evaluate the tasting price that way. Yup, I've to keep in mind that this is not a winery/distributor sponsored tasting. Love my Brunellos though, would be interested to try the Uccelliera and the Poggio Antico. Next time I guess.

Will be off to J-Pot at Vivo later with a Selbach Riesling Classic and a La Ferme Cote du Rhone. There'll be a BBQ on Sat where I'll be hoping to down some Aussie Shiraz, Chilean Carmenere, Aus/Spanish Grenache and maybe an Italian Dogajolo Toscana.

Just gave a bottle of wine to my colleague for his bd, a 2008 Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet, to get him started on red wine. I found it approachable; nice and plummy, with rather soft tannins but some structure when I tried it. Hope he'll be hooked!

Btw ikileo, out of thread topic, but I notice you're quite the fan of Zooey Deschanel? She's got a new show coming up on STAR World - New Girl! Starting this Sat 7.30pm. Enjoy!

@muthucurry: yup it's from the vinum sales.

@hkm: was looking around and saw some nice stuff with some age on it at a good price.

will be going back as they will be open until Feb. They are, however, closed tomorrow and Monday. u guys gotta try more whites from the Rhone; undervalued IMO. hit up the Clos du Caillou Chateauneuf du Pape blanc for awesome wines.

Here's a pic of the place for those who haven't been there. Good business decision to rent out the place. Much better visibility and foot-traffic in the area versus their usual Vinum place, plus more space. Also there's posters around the area (and even at LIDO cinema) that notifies the public of the sale; but that's just the marketing person in my talking ;)
