Looking for a IP camera and have some queries on the Vstarcam models.

- what is the difference betweeen H6837WIP and H6837WI?
- for recordings to the SD card, can the format be avi, mpeg.. etc for play on media player/TV directly?

All vstarcam camera records in propietary format one. Can't play wif normal media players

Ardneh, on my T7838WIP I had to set the motion sensitivity to 5 to get it to stop alerting every time a cloud passed by. 10 seemed the same as 1. I could not get the FTP to post on alerts only. It would post at a set frequency but not on motion alert only. I turned off the FTP because it was overloading my FTP data limits. I am on the latest firmware update. The android app closes everytime I try to view an event.

Thank you. Let me try to set it back to 5 and remove the ftp setup. It's not really needed anyway if I'm recording video on sdcard.

Btw, anyone find a way to watch the video in sdcard from using Mobile app.?

Geckosg, I emailed Marix on this issue and they don't have solution but will feedback to the factory. Hopefully they will improve the sensitivity.

Huh, its on the APP itself, TF Record to retrieve the recording on mobile APP. If you are not able to retrieve, check via webUI if your microsd card is detected or not. Before microSD card can be used, it need to b formatted using their webUI. Something which I've ask Marix to ask factory to auto format when the cam detects card but not in their required format.

I keep on using the Web UI to access the camera remote, so I forget about the app itself. *smacks head*. But something still wrong, only 2 videos and 1 picture so far.

Just to update. The sensitivity set to 5 is much better than 1 or 10. For those has trigger happy alarm, try this then. Thank you Johnboatcat

U disable your recording schedule or? Think recent firmware update screwed the motion recording portion on the sensitivity area.

Personal review on Vstarcam T6878WIP

Who: Limited experience user - 5 days
IT knowledge: medium (know enough to do port forwarding)

The good
1. order on Sunday evening and receive the product by Monday afternoon. Super quick response - very happy with that.

2. support quick reply. My very 1st email was answered in less than 10 minutes. The support team is committed to answer all questions , be it there's a solution or not

3. the free DNS comes in handy, as I believe dynDNS is no longer free. There are other simlar services, but dynDNS was the longest - so in a way more trustworthy.

4. camera perform as it should (record, pan, tilt, IR, trigger alarm, FTP, email alert)

5. Price is competitive. Very similar to Foscam though - but I decided to go against buying Foscam because there are so many problems reported in their forum.

The bad

1. Click sound when camera notice insufficient lighting. When IR is on and off, the sound is made. When I pan my camera across my room, the different brightness level triggers the IR on and off, hence the click sound is always heard. No use turning off the IR itself! The click is always there and support believes there's nothing can be done for this model.

Anyone using the same camera - are you having this ?

2. Motion Alert is trigger happy
Sensitivity is set from 1-10; with 1 being the most sensitive. It doesn't matter whether it's 1 or 10; the motion alert is triggered every 5-10 minutes. I thought that this is because the sun shine causes different coloration. BUT - even at midnight, this is still happening. From midnight to 6 am, there are 51 alerts. I set email notification and FTP. It's easy to get 250++ emails within 8 hours. The NAS where I FTP my pictures into, in the past 4+ days have 45000++ pictures.

Btw, there's no possibility to mark a rectangulare area for motion alert (at least not that I can find). Unlike the capability I see in Dlink 5222l

3. picture quality
I know this is 720p quality camera. I can view it, take picture with it - but quality is not that great. Don't get me wrong - i don't have bases to compare quality with other camera such as Dlink, Aztech or Foscam; so this is purely personal feeling.

4. delay between action and what's seen on camera
Compared to Foscam - based on youtube video by "awkwardHamster", there's bigger delay. You wave your arms and it take 0.5 second or more before you see the same movement. BUT -- honestly, the current speed is good enough for me. It captures fine.

5. Security is pretty bad
I use wifi - but my wifi password is clearly shown in the setting. If anyone manage to log into my camera; they can see it clearly displayed.

the webUI clearly stated the username and password in clear text. Again, very easy to capture on the network. Considering that i'm viewing the camera from outside home network, it's easy to sniff my admin/password to gain access to my camera setting and thereafter to my home wifi.

BTW - gain access to camera is enough for you to be able to control the camera and view my home.

6. Settings and configuration are messy
I don't know if I"m wrong. But certain settings can be found in the WebUI and some settings can be found in the "IP Camera Super client" (client running on PC).

Dr. Archer - seems you're the only one having multiple brand camera. What do you think of the Vstarcam that you recently bought?

I'm still working with Matrix support still on the alert trigger happy camera. They have logged it to the factory but factory says that this is normal behaviour.

It's useless to be notified 300 times a day when there're no actual movement. (note: I use my camera as security and place it to face the door hallway, so there's no movement, unless someone open the door).

Thanks on the review bro on your experience. The Trigger happy on the motion detection is indeed a sort of problem in the recent firmware, think MARIX had reported to factory.

Security wise, I think as long as you did not release ports to allow people to login to your camera via webUI, your network should be safe, anyway, nothing is safe nowsaday, WPA2 already can be hacked within 3 minutes of snooping (Japan University already done this years ago)

Motion wise, if you are using LAN, I've tested on my end also, in LAN no delay at all, its instant from my tests today. Over 3G, I would not expect instant movement, there will be delay especially when traffic shaping is in place nowsaday.

I hope next firmware release resolve some of the motion detection issue. Otherwise, it is quite a good solid camera for its price

Just to share. MARIX doing warehouse sales @ their office. You can check their BlogSpot for the details. Me just sharing information here.

If you do not mind the flaw on 40 sec high pitch, $99 for the T7837WIP is a very good buy with Limited warranty. No claims for the high pitch start up only.

Good replacement for FI8918W if you ask me. Its a 1 day event only from what I read.

Hi,

I'm new here and am looking for some info in using my Aztech WIPC402 with my Synology NAS 1812+.

I've tried to install the cam on the Surveillance Station and have been unsuccessful so far. Searching using keywords in both Synology and Hardwarezone forums have not turned up anything useful.

As the Aztech cam is not in the list on the Synology website, I have to do this manually. The problem I encounter is the Source Path to be keyed in for the camera. I have tried looking at the source element and src, but have still not been successful.

Will appreciate any help and advice from the guys here...... TIA!

I have the Aztech 401 and 406 models, but have only set the 401. The 401 can use the. foscam driver. The 402 is suppose to use H.264 encoding, so you can try to choose a Foscam model that has H.264 encoding. Think this includes the FI86XX and FI8620 models. Both are supported on SurvS 6.0-2337. I have the Synology 1512 but don't use SurvS.

Hi,
is the new firmware ready for download already?

I downloaded the software called "The upgrade software for IP Cam, version 1.1" from cd.gocam.so (Smart upgrade tool).

First, my "admin" and password is rejected. It keeps on saying login name or password is wrong. I changed the password back to default "88888" and still did not accept.

In frustration, I keep on clicking the "upgrade system" button and an information window pop-up telling "upgrading firmware, please wait". What ??

However, no progress bar shown on screen, so after a while, checked the fimrware again. It's the same.

My Firmware version is: 48.2.64.178 and my web UI version (on IE) is: TH2.0.1.20.

Help????

bro, i think u already got the latest available firmware. I just bought T7838WIP from Challenger yesterday. Image is definitely better than the Foscam FI8918W which i have due to T7838WIP is 720p. However, encounter few times the camera disconnected itself(wireless). Have changed the wireless channel to between 1 to 11(previously 1 to 13) and will monitor further....
