Looks cool. But I m skeptic on

1. How long the battery can last
In single charge
2. How long it takes to full charge
3. How long the WiFi coverage
4. Accuracy of motion detection

Cos if I need to wait for it to complete charge before I can use it. It means I need to buy spare if I need to take it down to charge...

So, built in battery like this may not b the best option if the surveillance needs 24x7.

Just some thoughts.

But it sure looks cute.

Got a Samsung Smartcam HD Pro recently. Reliability is crap. Got it running since last evening and the cam has already dropped its wifi connection twice. The only way to reconnect the cam seems to be to walk to the cam and reboot it. This was never a problem with my old foscam placed at the same exact location.

You may want to try moving the camera slightly. The internal antennae of the Samsung may have a different orientation from the Foscam, and my experience with WiFi is that the wireless signals can be very finicky. Also, if you are using the 2.4 GHz band, it can get pretty crowded in a densely populated dwelling (e.g. a flat), and if there are new wireless routers coming on line since the Foscam was retired, it may have interfered with the Samsung reception. Do a site survey for the wireless channels and see how congested the airwaves are.

WARNING: Please set your IP Camera's password

For those of you new to IP cameras, most new IP cameras offer easy 'idiot-proof' way of installing them. No more DDNS, portforwarding etc.

HOWEVER, please be mindful of the security and privacy of the IP cameras. One of the first and most important thing to do is to SET THE DEFAULT ADMIN PASSWORD. If you don't, your cameras are likely to be viewable by anyone on the WAN side.

Here is a web site showing those cameras that did not have their passwords set to something other than the default.

View net surveillance online cameras

In Singapore, there are 785 cameras that did not have the password / userID changed from default. As such, you can see what the cameras are showing.

Is your camera one of them?

I'm facing this relay mode countdown timer for the vstarcam T7838... I read somewhere it's due to the network etc. But this timer only appears when I use the PC client.

When I use my phone to view, it's perfectly fine and I'm able to stay connected permanently. Appreciate if someone could provide a solution :D

yes. its due to network. if direct connection cannot b establish due to some network block somewhere. it will go into a relay mode. u can try turning off ur home router for a while (ont also if u r using fibre) n see if u can get a new ip address.

Hi there, been reading the last 20-30 pages, way too much stuff.

Would appreciate if anyone can help to recommend IP camera within the price range of 100-150, looking to get 2 for home monitoring of kids and maid.

have selected a few, VStar, Aztech, Foscam, etc but appears plenty of horror stories. Wanted lesser nightmare if possible.

ease of installation and use.

only thing is need to use their own app if you have multiple sets

as it does not allow port forwarding so IP View my favourite app cannot be used for external viewing.

otherwise for price point it has wide angle view, wide dynamic range and IR. also play back from SD card is convenient if you dont have an NAS etc.

I have the Pro version and am able to set it up using Robert Chou's IP Cam Viewer and my Asus AC router. What I did was to assign the Samsung's MAC ID a static LAN IP address (via the Asus router), and then set up the Virtual server on the Asus router.

To add to the list, in addtion to VStarCam and dLink, other brands that can be considered include Aztech, Sineoji, Edimax and Trendnet, as well as some of the less common brands like Panasonic, Prolink, Sony, TP-Link, Bosch, ACTi, Samsung and FlexWATCH. It's all a matter of price, features and support.

Let me guess... You are not using IE. The quicktime streaming on Safari, Firefox is MAX VGA (640x480). They have not overcome this yet. But IE, you will be able to hit HD (1280x720)

I'm using the Pro version too and never thought of what you just said.

It's done!

Thanks.
