Hi guys, I'm looking into buying my first pair of decent goodyear welted shoes. Is the 30% off shoes at ed et al a good buy?

30% is for the older series, where the leather tends to crease a lot. If first pair, I will suggest u wait for Boxing Day to see whether the UK online shops has 20% discount for Loake 1880 range.

I was also tempted by the Antique Olive wholecut for a while. But the thought of finding a compatible belt and the fact that i was not looking for a wholecut at the momentt, finally saved me some money. But it was tempting, especially with free shipping as well.

If only the discounts were on the austerity brogue.

Thanks for the feedback! I did consider loakes, but I was concerned about sizing issue. I assume the only way around it is to go Robinson and try the loakes there for size?

Is this considered heavy creasing? These shoes were bought this year but from the previous year's model.

I personally find the leather to be holding up pretty well. So I guess those on 30% discount should be pretty ok?

Of course, i have my fair share of belt adjusters pants. But with 5 pairs of unworn shoes and another MTO on the way, hard to justify buying an olive green pair too. Anyway glad i did not pull the trigger.
