From your posts.. bought my first pair of loake shoes from Robinsons. I have been wearing Bata leather shoes for the past 3 years, $100 per pair quite nice but don't last long. Hope that the shoes will fit.

This is my experience with the shoes you have mentioned. For reference only as each person's feet are slightly different.

I have a high instep as well.

Rain - UK 9 for me
Hiro UK 9.5 for me (but i only have this as balmoral boot, and i think sizing up 0.5 for boots is for easier wear). Fits fine and lacing can be closed.

As for Cheaney, I have the Grassmere (made by Cheaney for Herring). This is a F fit width, derby. And i wear UK9. Fits me as well.

Shoe care help

Hi guys,

Recently got a pair of shoes from Archules...wonder if it is worth to do the proper condition, cream, wax polish shoecare regime for a $115 cemented shoe?

Saphir Reno costs like $30, shoe cream and wax polish costs like $26 each...the math doesn't work out.

Anyone knows of cheaper conditioner products that is still okay to use? Saw in Tangs columbus mink oil ~$10 but not sure about quality.

Oh and should coloured shoe creams and wax polish be used for dark tan shoes? or is a neutral a better option?

Hope some of the more experienced people here can help this noob here haha

You still need to take care of the shoe leather whether the shoe is attached to the sole via sewing or glueing.

No need for reno. Shoe cream shoe brush will suffice.

Thanks for your input.

Am wondering if the layers of shoe cream and wax polish will build up if I don't use Reno to remove them periodically? Heard this may cause leather to dry up and crack...or is this irrelevant in our humid climate?

Btw shoe cream...neutral or coloured?

Coloured and will your cemented shoes even hold up till then?

Don't overthink it.. It's not rocket science.

Probably not. But then you won't use the entire can on 1 shoe. So you can treat it as a learning experience on using those products.

The maths work out if your shoes are goodyearwelted shoes in excess of $300.

Kiwi products are fine too, and they are available everywhere.

Well taken care shoes will look better, even cemented 'leather' shoes.

Nothing wrong with using Kiwi wax, they give you the best bang for buck. But please don't waste your money using Saphir stuff on the shoes; the soles would have already given way long before the leather does.

Many many years ago I tried the Columbus mink oil. They can be very "saturating" so use sparingly.

My 2cents worth

Read some where that people uses Lexol cleaner and conditioner for shoe as well. I have not used it before but I think someone here has tried it.

Any good brand and modern design for smaller feet to recommend? Currently wearing size 38. Which is still slightly big need in sole or thick socks.

Hi! Anyone familiar with the lasts of loake shoes? I currently have two pairs - Elland and 771T - and feel like I want to 'move up' into the 1880 series. However, taking the Elland as a reference (since I want an oxford), it sits on the 085 last, which doesn't feature on the 1880s range. Owing to a bunion on both feet I generally need broader shoes (or risk a protrusion at the side plus lots of pain - but strangely on the 771T which is a F fitting shoe there is no pain at all).

Was wondering if anyone can suggest what lasts / models I could possibly be looking at in the Loake 1880s? Apart from the F fitting shoes in the catalogue online, does the Capital last run narrow?
