Man, I must say, I love my shoes.
But people keep harping on wearing OTC socks.
Tried it once, felt like a f**king fag**t.

Imagine you bring a girl home, start making out with her.
Off come your trousers.
She takes one look.... "WTF, ku niang."
Leaves.
Your socks should be the least of what matters below the belt. ;)

I hope that chap who asked about buying a pair from them w/o discount code didn't already pull the trigger!

Guess for the regulars, there's only that many pair of loake/barkers that one would want to get (which are the only 2 main brands that Robinsons shoes offer)... but good for folks to venture and get their first pairs with these periodic discount codes!

Hope so too for that guy, 20% savings is almost $100 off a Loake 1880 series.

Even if I was Mandingo, I'd still feel / look like a f**king fag**t wearing OTC socks.
I feel very very adequate in all other (non sock) departments. Thank you very much.

Anyway, back to shoes.
Recently I've had a thought.
Rather than sticking with the conventional idea that GYW shoes are "superior".
I think Blake Rapids are seriously worth considering. In fact, looking at the construction method, I'd feel they're better than GYWs. The presence of the midsole obviates the need for gemming and potential gemming failure.
In that respect, one can consider Italigente shoes (though I'm not a fan of Jesper's blog). They are BR, feature a beveled waist as well.... most other aspects seem comparabale to other RTW makers.
I think they come in at just under SGD$500.

Yes... They are definitively sleeker and more comfortable to wear. Blake Rapid is also able to resole pretty much similar like GYW.

Check out Allan Baudoin work done in Blake Rapid

Enzo also have their shoe done in Blade Rapid, albeit at lower price than their hw range..

Is the slight premium in the Loake 1880s worth over the cheaper Shoemakers line?

The answer is... It really depends.

The main difference between the shoemaker and 1880 range are the leathers used for the uppers. 1880s use calf leathers, whereas the shoemaker range uses "polished" leather which are leathers coated with a finish, giving the shoe a permanent effect of being polished.

Purists will insist on calf leathers over "polished" ones. However, polish shoes have their uses as well. They are easier to maintain, and less delicate then calf leathers.

I personally feel that there is a place for "polished" leathers if the end user wants something that is cheaper, requires less maintenance, and can take more abuse.

Anyone have Dino Monti and how is it? Thinking of buying a pair as there's sales now for 200-300. Seems like pretty good value for hand-made in italy.

Looks like blake stitched with synthetic inner works, heel etc.

if like that can call "artisan hand made" then shukey gluing vibrams can also join the same league.

Dont get taken in by sweet marketing talk please

Thanks, appreciate the insight. I don't care for spending alot of time on shoe care actually. Dislike polishing shoes LOL.

Among ordering from these sites: Meermin, Robinsons' or Herring, which generally has the quickest turnaround and the least pain-points when shipping? E.g. hello customs surcharge!

I personally find that shoes using better polished leathers are good for trashing around, with polish required only when you need to cover up minor scuffs/scratches. If not the leather does pretty well on its on. No fussing about needed.

At those pricepoints no need to worry about GST. IIRC GST only applicable to declared value of SGD400 and above.

I personally prefer working eith Herring because their customer service is superb, delivery via DHL although at GBP20 is slightly pricey but fast and easy to deal with.

For Robinson's Shoes you have to note that free shipping is only applicable for purchases above GBP150 (after deducting VAT from listed price).
