Been reading the thread for quite abit.

I have a question and would love you guys advice or any suggestions on it.

I'm currently looking to get the Loake Strand, but locally I don't know anyplace that carries it, I only konw that Robinsons carries Loake brand, which I went to Raffles City branch today, but they only have like 5 models, none from the 1880 line.

But I digress, point is they don't have Strand. So I've tried something closest to what I can compared to Strand, which is a Stitch.

Stitch: F fitting, Ridge Last.
Strand: F fitting, Capital Last.

I tried UK 8 size, width is alright, but the length is a bit long, I'm thinking maybe a UK 7-7.5 would be my size, but Robinsons smallest size only left UK 8.
(BTW, I wore a medium thickness socks to test today, army black socks for info.)

So asking here for any advice on my situation, or should I just try my gut feeling and order online say a UK 7.5 for Strand.

(I did emailed Loake asking for advice too.)

Thanks! :)

I have this problem where my shoe trees (43-44) cannot fit into two of my loafers (Carmina and J.Fitzpatrick). The trees' vamp is too high to fit nicely into the loafers.
The trees fit all my other shoes properly.

Anyone has this problem as well?

Hi All in a Day,

Sorry to ride on this thread and need your advice. I am going to order

(1) Meermin Double Monks in Hiro Last. Based on the correspondence between Meermin, they suggested I order 10.5UK as I had shown them my feet's measurements. I wear Llyr double monks Euro 44.

(2) If I were to order Oxford in Hiro last, would it be also 10.5UK despite I showed them my measurements but they did not suggest.

(3) Any shop in local which I can try before order it online?

Thank you very much.

I dont think i am qualified to advise u as i do not own any meermin not llyr shoes. U should decide whether to trust meermin's advice, having made the effort to provide necessary info and hence gotten their reply.

Accept the fact that internet shopping for shoes will have hits and misses. There are very few brands discussed here that u would get a chance to try at a shop locally. Your next best alternative is to cull thru carousell or similar forums and see if any kind soul letting of shoes in your desired brand/size is willing to let u try.

Anyone own a pair of plum museum calf shoes from Meermin?

Want to indulge in a pair but I have some concerns regarding the actual amount of red in the leather.

Meermin seem to have lit up the red in their pictures. Read some reviews that the shoes are actually a lot darker in real life. Almost to the point of being black??

Was hoping someone could share some pictures. Can contribute to the shoe porn gallery here also!

From one Megadeth fan to another, give Meermin a pass dude. Save up some more bullets and get a better pair of shoes. Ultimately it'll work out better.

Usually loafers are made with the instep lower so that the shoe is tight and will not lift when you walk, as there is no mechanism to tighten the area with laces/ straps etc. Some shoemakers e.g. G&G, StC have loafer specific last for this purpose, lower instep, tighter heels.

If your loafers have a high vamp i.e. The leather portion extends quite high up your instep, some shoe trees may not fit even if in your size and you need to go a size down.

Most shoe trees are design to have a genereous instep as this is necessary to "push out" the creases and sometimes it may not fit high vamp penny loafers or monks.

One option is to file the area down and use the shoe trees exclusively for loafers.

Thanks. May be i will buy the official Carmina loafer from the store. Will check if they will fit their loafers first.

To receive advice from the legendary thundermarch himself.... haha

I was looking at Carmina too.
But as a student with a measly income... sigh..

Its no wonder why I have to frequent thundermarch's insta page to satisfy my shoe porn urges. (as creepy as that may sound)

Budget for museum calf shoes, even from meermin (feel like a snob with this remark) isn't exactly commensurate with a measly income.. so either your income is not that measly after all, or your budget is rather disproportionate to your income. :D

Hardly man.
I'm just another nobody, passing through life, a mere blip on the internet.
There are far bigger "shoe players" out there.
All these shoes have merely been a distraction, to help me forget about other things in life.

So much Zen in those words. Perhaps you attained enlightenment after your trip to Japan? :s13:
