They are cheaper than the other two. In terms of a starter shoes

Difference of the 3 brands +/- $100..

I replied to another post before: Edetal and Llyr have retail presence, go touch, feel, see, smell, try and form your own judgment between these 2 brands.

I would rate loake 1880 slightly higher in terms of leather quality. The aesthetics of loake 1880 are quite different (more conservative) than the other 2 brands though..

FWIW LLYR also uses Ilcea leather now. So not too shabby. Havnt seen Edwin's new collection so cant comment on his new stuff. As for his old collections, the usual same ole complaints.

Construction quality wise I'll rate LLYR same as EEA. Loake 1880 QC will be higher

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Think I'll visit LLYR and see if any particular pair of shoes appeal to me. If not, will probably wait for Loake sale after trying at robinson/metro

All these talk about burgundy, makes me yearn for Carmina Cordovan Wholecut in Burgundy.

Maybe, just maybe, next year aim...
And can have 3 different color shoes.

(What does this thread do to a person who only initially wanted just a pair of decent shoe. In a short 2 months time...)

True story! I feel you bro. Just got my third pair of EEAs in less than a year to complete the collection of Brown, Black and Burgundy. Haha

If u posed the question to loake as generically as u wrote here, i m not surprised with the answer. If u've ask specifically on x last vs y last fit, i would think they would give a less vague reply. If they didnt then prob they use a standard template for all such queries! Lol

haha good point. I did, actually! I asked how their capital would fare as compared to their 028 and 085 lasts, which I know are the classic round toes, and got this.

That said, it's the end-year period, and the person signed off as A.E Loake. If it's who I think it is, it's fairly interesting to receive a response from the boss!

Yes...I really hope next year after whacking the expensive Carmina Cordovan Wholecut in Burgundy then no more dress shoes...(3 colors in 3 different styles) for a long time to come. Hope.

Nice. That's one of the new lasts from their new collection that is quite appealing to me... reminiscent of EG 82 last!

They should name their lasts and website should have a section on their last shapes!

Have the shoes in the pic been worn out before? If so am quite impressed with the lack of creases :)

Quote for future reference!

Based on experience of many here, myself included, the more you buy the more you lack! :s13::s13:

Nope just got them today haha. It's the last pair for my size though. Anyway I have a pair of City Hall (oxfords) and Cairnhill (adelaides) from them and I actually find that the creasing on the adelaides which are from the newer collection seems to be more obvious than on the City Hall though.

Oh no, 1st reported case of creasing for new collection, and to add salt to injury, worse than earlier collection!

I guess creases will always be there, I find it okay personally. Perhaps the creasing is due to the slightly narrower last of the new collection..

Sigh. Wrote to Loake requesting for advice on sizing and lasts of their non- vs 1880s shoes, and got this reply:

" I’m sure you will understand that, although there’s a standard system for sizing shoes, there is (unfortunately) no such thing as a standard foot shape.* The outcome of this is that different shaped shoes will fit different shaped feet in different, and some people may need to go up or down in size in some styles to achieve a comfortable fit.* Hopefully, the last shape, size and fitting should give you a good indication."

Which basically amounts to nothing. Maybe it's just the holiday season, or am I missing something?

Yeah, I'm not bothered by creasing too.

I think all my calf leather shoes crease, regardless of country of manufacture or price point, except suede shoes.
