Hi, for suede brushes, what's the difference between those rubber (pin shapes and swirl shape) and brass wire type? Do they each serve a different purpose?

Hope to get some advice from the learned bros here. After reading the thread, I decided to order a Loake Gladstone UK 10F (my size) from Herrings, which I got today.

Only problem is that they seem to be a half size too big ie. will fit nicely only if I wear 2 pairs of my normal socks such that I can just fit 1 index finger between back of foot and heel (guess the shoe is about 1.5cm - 2cm too long).

Will insoles help? I rather not ship them back to Herrings (since that's like $50 shipping) if possible for an exchange down half a size, since they may then be too snug. If insoles will help, any advice where to get them, brand etc?

The fear is that UK 9.5 will be too small then I would have incurred extra shipping fees for nothing. Seems better to stick with something that's a bit big than possibly incurring extra costs to get something a bit small (since that's unwearable).

Maybe I can sell it off - anyone interested? I'll sell it at a loss (minus the shipping I would have to pay anyway if I send it back).

I would prefer getting a slightly smaller shoe rather than a bigger one. Leather expands and after 20 or so wears, the size will fit you nicely. The bigger sized shoe may be too loose and over wear, it might not crease well if the toe space is too roomy.

My experience is that it's better to use a color for polish closer to the shoe color. Neutral polish has this characteristic where by it flakes and shows. All polishes flake abit, but netural ones produce white flakes that tends to show up clearer in stress points.

Unless you buff your shoes on a daily basis then in which case, it might not matter.
